Past life regression
I know this is the Lounge and serious subjects probably don't belong here and I am the last person to be serious about much of anything. But I have an appointment on Wednesday to undergo past life regression therapy which is not something I would have ever dreamed of doing until 2009 when my sister committed suicide, my dogter had to be put to sleep and my husband was killed in an automobile accident. I'm grasping at straws, I know that. I haven't been able to reach acceptance that my beloved HerrHerr is dead. His coat is still hanging on the door, the last book he was reading is on his nightstand, next to his glasses. I need peace. I need to believe in something.

Has anybody ever undergone this type of therapy or have any experience with this subject? I'd really like to hear what others have to say.

1. I have had some interesting experiences
At this point, I believe what we perceive as past lives, are instances when our souls enter the life of another briefly. When I was doing research, I saw a woman who did past life regression, I concluded she was a charlatan. I don't believe what you a are going to do will be a wash, it will give you some insight into what attracts you and what you are attracted to. I hope you find some comfort and peace. Let us know how it goes.

2. For me
getting to the point of believing in a soul would help immensely. The woman offering her help is doing it for free so she has no monetary gain. Thank you for your thoughts siligut.

3. My dear theNotoriousP.I.G...
I have never undergone this but it sounds interesting.

Many, many years ago, I went with my then-boyfriend to visit a psychic. She held two possessions of mine and went into a trance.

It was fascinating. She told me about my many past lives and what I had come back for this time...I felt the truth of it...

I hope you get the answers you're looking for, and the peace.

4. I have had several past-life regressions
One guided by my elder, the others on my own in meditation or in dreams.

Like anything of this nature, it's very important that you connect with the person guiding you. No harm no foul if you don't (some practitioners and clients simply don't connect--has nothing to do with either one being good or bad--it's just chemistry, like friendship); just be aware that it plays a big part in the success of the effort.

Question: The goal of a past-life regression is to relive one of your OWN past lives. In what way do you think it will help you with the events of others in your life?

6. Thank you for your input MorningGlow
I'm hoping that one of my past lives, if they exist, will include Markus. If they exist and he isn't a part of that then I will at least be able to believe that the soul lives on.

7. People who believe in past lives
also believe that we share all of our lives with the same members of our soul family--that we trade off different roles, such as spouses, parent/child, siblings, best friends, and even enemies--in order to grow spiritually, learn lessons, and help one another accomplish certain goals (a soul family member who plays an enemy often can teach us through conflict, challenge, or adversity). When a soul passes on, they return to the collective soul family and may join you again in another lifetime to accomplish other goals.

Recognizing a soul family member is easy--it's the people you're drawn to unquestioningly, as opposed to people you never give a second glance, a second thought to. Whether they're in your life for its entirety or for only a short time, they have a big effect on you and your growth as a person.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say that you and Markus had many lives together, judging by the purity of your love for one another in this life. If you have a successful regression, you'll likely see the past life that is most closely related to your current one. The best outcome is that you'll learn why you were together in this life and also why he passed early. I hope you gain the insights you need.

8. I've never told anybody on DU the story of how I met Markus
It was fate if you believe in that sort of thing.

In 2000 my sister Jill and I had both gotten our first home computers and Jill was making friends with people all over the world as pen pals thanks to AOL Instant messaging. I asked her how she was contacting all these people and she told me she just picked a country, opted for users online and then sent them instant messages. On November 19th, 2000 I randomly picked Germany even though I had never had any interest in Germany, chose users online and there were only 7 people online and picked Markus and sent him the message "do you know your country is so small there are only 7 people online right now?" He was not amused and replied that it was 7 am on Sunday morning. We started talking and he sent me his picture. He looked like my grandfather. He had a mole on his face in the exact same spot that my mother does. He looked like members of my family. He was German but had dark, olive toned skin like me. We were so happy. He was the best man I've ever known. I can only hope to find solace with the past life regression and discover that we will be together again.

10. I think it can offer you insights into why you do the things you do.
It did for me, anyway...

I have always been absolutely squeaky clean when it came to dating and monogamy. If I was with somebody I'd NEVER give a thought to going out with anyone else, let alone hopping into bed. I know it sounds like an ethics decision, but it went even deeper for me, there was almost this paranoia about there even being an appearance of anything going on. Not exactly a problem, really, but when my husband and I were dating, he was kind of bemused when I agreed to go fishing with his old room-mate pending his ok. His opinion was that was not his business--that I was capable of rational decisions and he trusted us both so what was the big deal?

According to this memory, in a previous life I was living someplace in China--a very small village. I was married, and my husband was convinced I was having an affair with another man. He beat me to death for it. I know that all sounds tidy and woo-woo, metaphysical, and melodramatic, but I can recall watching my blood drip into the dirt, and I remember the pain of it. I also remember crying in anger because I knew I'd done nothing wrong.

---------

I am sorry that you are still in so much pain. Loss is never easy, but I think sometimes that an accident is so very tragic because of how sudden it is--you never had an opportunity to make your peace or even speak your mind. I dunno if it helps or not, but I do not think we die when our physical body shuts down. I lost a very dear friend suddenly, and in a dream she came back to me and told me to stop mourning--that she was ok, and it just gets better when you leave this existence. She told me she wanted me to have the gift of that knowledge, and I have carried it with me ever since.

I did not talk about it for years because I didn't think I could bear it if anyone made jokes or laughed at me. I still am selective about who I share that with in person, but as I have aged I have come to think that gift like that are something best shared. Knowledge comes when we most need it, I suppose...

Peace to you, and may your burdens lighten.

There are a lot of really kind and supportive people that post in there. Without exception I think they will be willing to explore respectful questions like this one.

11. I have no experience in this area, but just wanted to check in
and say that I do believe in a soul that continues on after this life , in some sort of form, and in a place of perfect light and love... Some would call that being in the presence of God I suppose.........and I am 100% behind you in your search for peace of mind any way that you choose to look for it. And I echo davsand's words: peace to you.

15. I have not had an official regression, but...
...I've had flashes of memories that pop up now and again - usually not particularly dramatic, just a sudden "knowing" as I experience myself in some past-life situation, kind-of an "oh yeah, I remember that." Sometimes those situations include people and animals whom I know in my current lifetime, and sometimes not.

I do believe that there's one special individual with whom I've shared numerous lifetimes (I don't really like the cliche'd term "soul mate," but that kinda fits) whom I recognized immediately when we first met again in this life. It was a sense of, "Oh, there you are again. What took you so long?" And he said the same, so it wasn't just my adolescent imagination. He was killed that same year, but I have the sense that he's "waiting" for me, rather than incarnating again at this time.

Other fellow-travelers have been pets of mine, some of whom again I "recognized" right away at first meeting with a sense of familiarity. I think that we do travel together with a like-minded group of souls, some of whom play the role of friends/lovers/soul-mates, and some who play the role of enemies or obstacles. I also believe that we incarnate as various species throughout our lifetimes, and on various planets - not in the sense that there's a "chain of enlightenment" so that one form is "higher" than another, but that all are sentient beings and equally valid. "Human" has been my least-favorite form.

Of course, I have zero proof of any of this, other than my own subjective experiences. And those are just that: subjective - so I don't lay claim to their absolute truth. They feel true to *me.* But if you asked me whether I *knew* there was such a thing as a "soul," I would say no. I think so. My experiences incline me to believe it. But there's truly no way to *know.*

You will ultimately have to judge by what rings true to you.

16. Though I can't answer your questions about past life regression,
I do know someone who I believe was looking for a peace similar to what you're looking for. Her brother committed suicide, her sister was murdered, then another brother committed suicide because he couldn't handle it. She started going to a UCC church and I think it helped her find some peace. I'm not trying to push church on you, I just wanted to share a story of someone also going through an ordeal of horrific deaths.
