Any reoccuring themes in your dreams? I have a few. One is a casino
at the end of the lake my cottage is on. Of course there is not a casino in rural Quebec, it is just there in my dreams. I don't actually enjoy casinos. I am always trying to get to it. It is really posh. I keep trying to tell people "Hey there is a casino at the end of the lake ... we should go".

The other is my grandmother on my dad's side of the family. She died more than a decade ago but I dream she is really alive and I feel terrible for nobody having visited her. Of course I never visit her in my dream. She is just there in the old age home. (sometimes it is her sister, my great aunt, who is alive).

1. two
1. I dream that a whole bunch of people are at my house and I realize that there's little to feed them. I'm scrounging the cupboards, making do, making up dishes. Tense.

2. I dream that we are moving out of a place and I can't possibly get everything organized, packed, cleaned, etc. It's a nightmare, really.

Oh, and I have another series of dreams related to my hobby/business of buying and selling antiques and vintage items. I find myself in a place where just wonderful things are gathered -- things I know I can make a lot of money on if I can only buy them. I start picking what I want, but I never actually make the purchase, for some reason.

21. These are fears that your life is not in your control and that you
might not measure up to the goals you've set for yourself.

Those are really common anxieties, and women seem to have them more than men. In your full consciousness, you might only have tinges of uneasiness, but when you sleep, you manifest it into not being able to live up to others' expectations of you, and your own of yourself.

I always tell my friends to concentrate more on your perceptions the dream situation, not to look for symbolism of plates, kitchens or food. They mean different things to different unconscious minds.

brain has added more.

4. A few...
...the basement of my grandma's house where I endured a traumatic event as a child.

...a frat house at my alma mater.

...a swamp in war time.

...a pond in a park in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago.

A friend told me to ask about it.

7. Being half-naked in public....
Edited on Mon Jan-31-11 11:30 PM by Lisa0825
sometimes no one seems to notice, even though I am frantically trying to cover myself. Sometimes people are pointing and whispering.

I also dream about sort of half-flying/half leaping... like the basketball team on Flubber, only the length of a football field. That is a fun dream.... it's like "wooooooohooooo!!!! Look what I can do! :-)"

8. I have two lifelong anxiety dreams.
One involves tying to go up or down a stairway of some kind. They tend to be very Escher-esque, twisting and winding, defying gravity, sometimes passing through a tight enclosure, and they're very hard to navigate and I feel worried about the whole affair. I'm actually a little stair-phobic (down, not up).

The other involves trying desperately to make a phone call and for one reason or anothe I'm completely unable to do so. Fingers slip, I forget the number and have to begin again, etc. I'm not afraid of phones but trace it back to an original scary dream from when I was very small that ends with a loud howling sound coming from the phone. I solved the mystery in therapy years back when I realized it began when we lived on an Air Force Base during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Those alert sirens went off and my father would disappear (SAC) and we wouldn't know if there was a war or he'd come back.

I have lots of recurrent scanarios but I enjoy those.

15. I used to have similar dreams
I'd always have trouble walking. Like I was struggling against a stiff wind or trying to walk through thick molasses. In my dream, the only way I can propel myself forward is to turn around and walk backwards.

The other recurring one I used to have had to do with walking around on ridiculously tall stilts (like miles high stilts) and then freaking out when I realized I had no way to get off of them without just falling down.

go back in...I really hated it, and have been out for 40 years, still dream about it.

School nightmare A: can't find the class
School nightmare B: haven't been to class all term, and now, towards the end know I have to find it to pass.
School nightmare C: I need to complete another class or two to finish high school, even though I've already finished college.
Dirty bathroom nightmare.
Golf frustration nightmare.
Mystery town by the sea.
Familiar mall or street scene with lots of great bars.
Elevator frustration in large building.
Wonderful bouncing leads to flying.
Mysteriously familiar but unfamiliar house.

13. I have two recurring dreams.
1. There's a very high, narrow bridge that has no surface on which to drive, so I have to park my car at the end of a long line of cars, then walk to the bridge. To get across, I'm given a helium balloon to tie on my wrist as a safety device. I then have to maneuver myself across, hand over hand like going across monkey bars. The dream ends as I start crossing.

2. I'm on the interstate, which has the narrowness, peaks, sharp turns, & loops of a giant roller coaster. I'm trembling with fear that I'm going to fall off.

I have no idea why I've had these dreams because I'm not afraid of driving or of bridges, but I am afraid in these dreams.

Mine are so weird compared to the other dreams posted.

16. oooooh! Good thread, I'm always analysing my friends' dreams!
I'm not a psychologist, but my mother was one and I devoured her books when I was a teenager---mostly because I had my own recurring anxiety dream, starting from age 3 and continuing through my young adulthood. I would dream that the curtains on my windows would turn evil, blowing and billowing, drawing me into their volumious fabric until I couldn't breathe. In various incarnations, I would hold onto furniture, trying to resist their pull, or I would somehow get away, find an adult and bring them to the room. Of course, the room would always look normal then, and the adults thought I was crazy. Whatever, as soon as I was alone in the room, the curtains would turn malevolent again.

I figured it out when I was about 19: The window represented the world outside my comfort zone, the future to which we are irrevocably drawn. The curtains were a manifestation of my own fears, but also the mixed messages your parents give you by pushing you out there, yet wanting nothing more than to protect you--knowing, of course that they'd suffocate your spirit. I internalized it all, and it came through my dream.

17. A certain type of dream...I have had them in clusters since young adulthood...
I'm in a house or apartment.
I live there, I'm familiar
with the place.
I walk through a door or down
a hallway and discover room upon
room that I hadn't realized was
there.
Furnished spaces, porches with
views of lakes or mountains I
didn't know existed.

How could I not know that I
HAD all this room and these things?

The dreams are not scary, in them
I am filled with wonder and delight.

They come and go.

A psychiatrist friend of mine once
told me that they signify undiscovered
facets of my personality and talents and
that they are positive dreams.

19. I always dream of exploring houses...I'm curious and excited to see the cool things!!
I think it's a metaphor for your perception of life: a house has many rooms with doors leading to something new and exciting, yet there is a framework, walls and a foundation that gives you a sense of security. Like you can wander endlessly finding treasures in cubby holes and attics, yet you have boundaries to keep you safe.

One of my favorite dreams as an adult, now that I don't get to fly anymore!:(

22. Yes... I have many "serial" dreams that are like a continuing story.
1. First day of high school and don't know how I will get there (we had to take public transportation).
2. Someone stole my car.
3. Riding a bus on a long round-about route and never reaching my destination.
4. Staying with a wealthy family's daughter (who befriended me) and has strange parents.
5. Lots of college dreams --- Can't find my class; lost my schedule; bad professor who gives parties; need one more class to graduate and have to drive there for the class; never went to class but have to take the final, etc.
6. Driving on vacation and get lost, or don't have gas money.
7. Seeing my dogs who are long-gone. They are playing on a hill and won't come when I call them.
8. Class reunion.
9. Work- related: Students won't leave at the end of the day; former co-worker comes in to show me up; teaching in some dirty, cluttered old classroom with lots of old tools and junk in it.
10. Moving: Roommates won't help me pack; don't have a U-haul; want to go home but keep staying at old apartment; etc.

Almost all of these dreams cause me to wake up with a migraine.

23. I have college dreams often too
Strangely, I have recently started having college food dreams. The second half of college, I wasn't on the full meal plan so I have dreams about not knowing if I have any meals left. I also dreamed about not making it to the dining hall on time.
