Poll question: Most evil song II: Electric Boogaloo
Edited on Thu Apr-01-04 10:51 AM by undisclosedlocation
I wanted to carry over the "winner" from the previous poll, Ms. Houston's lungfest from "The Bodyguard," but there were just too many good (no, make that appropriate) suggestions among the replies. So here's another set. Forgive that there isn't room for all the pain.

Evil in this context, once again, constitutes a) very, very bad songs that b) are extremely terrible to get stuck in your head. Feel free of course to provide your own definition.

We are NOT going to talk about how many of the nominees from the previous thread's replies that I actually like! :)

Oh, the first poll is here, if you just haven't suffered enough: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=958432&mesg_id=958432

PS: Who knew that I couldn't spell "boogaloo"?

2. Worley, without question.
All of the above songs are horrid, but the Freeper Propaganda Bullshit Anthem has to take the prize.

4. I still say, "You're Having My Baby"!!!
by Mr. Paul Anka. Evil, because narcissistic and frankly, way too much information..."The seed inside you, baby, can you feel it growing? The seed inside you, baby, are you happy knowing you're having my baby?"

5. MacArthur Park? Delta Dawn? I'm On Top Of The World?
You've barely scratched the surface of true evil in music.

11. Let's revisit the genius that is "MacArthur Park," shall we?
Edited on Thu Apr-01-04 12:17 PM by ritc2750
Spring was never waiting for us, girl
It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
Between the parted pages and were pressed
In love's hot, fevered iron
Like a striped pair of pants

MacArthur Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

I recall the yellow cotton dress
Foaming like a wave
On the ground around your knees
The birds, like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing checkers by the trees

MacArthur Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

There will be another song for me
For I will sing it
There will be another dream for me
Someone will bring it
I will drink the wine while it is warm
And never let you catch me looking at the sun
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
You'll still be the one

I will take my life into my hands and I will use it
I will win the worship in their eyes and I will lose it
I will have the things that I desire
And my passion flow like rivers through the sky
And after all the loves of my life
After all the loves of my life
I'll be thinking of you
And wondering why

MacArthur Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!
Oh, no
No, no
Oh no!!

7. Hey, let's not bash all of Phil Collins' output!
Don't be like the progressive rock snobs who say Genesis did nothing worthwhile after Gabriel left, or that Pink Floyd wasn't worthwhile after Waters left. Phil did some fine solo work throughout the 80s. Everything post "But Seriously" sucks, though. :)

10. Pink Floyd WASN'T worthwhile after Waters left.
Gilmour is NOT Pink Floyd. He's not even an original member. The only reason he and Mason stole the name is because the album they released under their own names tanked.

As for Genesis and Phil Collins, they were OK right up until about the mid 80's.

12. Heck, I personally like "Against All Odds" and even "Easy Lover"
But I can like these and still perceive that in terms of musical or lyrical sophistication, they are sort of lacking. Anyway, I was just taking nominations from the replies on the original thread (linked above in original message) where two people said "All Phil Collins." Go argue with them. :)

13. Heck, I wrote it and I still can't decide!
I mean, Worley is the most evil in the absolute sense of the word, but in terms of a bad, bad song, it's gotta be Charlene. Maybe I ought to sell my vote...

15. I voted "other".
What song could be more stupid than "Run, Joey Run". AWFUL! If I were to hear it again, it would haunt me in my sleep.
Who sang that one anyway?

16. Somebody called David Geddes; I'm so glad I don't remember this
Here's a good, formerly great, site that is infinitely informative on such matters: http://www.top40db.org/Songs/ID_75189.shtml Link is specifically for Run Joey Run. The site in general has highest chart positions and partial lyrics for every US top 40 number of the last 40 years or so, popup and ad free. It used to have complete lyrics but now you have to go to the .net version and register, and I'm not that trusting.

Watching drunk idiots dance to it.

On edit: Or am I thinking "Electric Slide"?

19. You're thinking Electric Slide

Electric Boogaloo was the subtitle to Breakin' II.

And being slightly into breakdancing back then, I loved both Breakin' and Breakin' II: Electric Boogaloo.

Anybody else, besides me, like Crush Groove? (Same genre)

Actually, I rather suspect that we can (but I hope not)
