What bad rap does your city not deserve?
I live in Charleston SC, and we're unfairly lumped in with the rest of our toothless, cousin-marrying state when, conservative politics aside, Chas. is a really cool place to live. It's like a museum that serves jello shots. Lots o' culture, history, art.

Looking forward to hearing any Ohioans defend their towns (j/k, a little ex-pat humor there)...

13. That IS a bad rap, because the TRUE asshole drivers are in DC!
And if you don't believe me, all you L.A. drivers spend a week driving two rush hours a day in metropolitan DC. You'll be convinced.

I hope you take some comfort, Ronny, in knowing it is all just a bad rap. By comparison to DC drivers, Los Angeles drivers are all considerate, law-abiding, safe-driving citizens.

6. so does baltimore
heroin capital of the u.s.

but it IS mostly dangerous to those in the game. oustiders can do just fine. very liberal, very democratic, very ethnic, very creative-artsy, gay-friendly, folksy, neighborhood-y.

but high crime and high drugs just the same. miserable infrastructure, for the most part.

I've been asked by a few out of towners if we all sound the guys from SNL.

17. There are a lot of things about Chicago that people have wrong.
It's not really windy.

The weather isn't all that bad. I once had someone in Texas ask me if there were any outdoor swimming pools in Chicago, since according to them, it was winter in Chicago perpetually.

Also, it's not really true that if your walking down the street in an unfamiliar area in the wee hours of the morning, that someone will shoot you and take your money..........OK, well, that I guess is true. But not if it's really, really cold out, because of course in that case, even the muggers are home in bed.

7. Dogtown
North Little Rock, Arkansas. Citizens of Little Rock used to drive their stray across the river to the north shore. The name stuck.

Original name: Argenta, latin for silver.

10. I really thought Tampa weather would be unbearable
in the summer. Sure, it's hot and humid, but it cools down every afternoon after it rains. Seriously, it's not bad. The rest of the year is very nice, though the natives bundle up in parkas (no joke!) when it drops below 40 on the 2 - 3 days in the winter when it gets 'cold'.

On the other hand, I'm not a native and I'd really like to live near mountains and tall trees. I've only been here 2.5 years and hope to leave soon for the hills!

New Yorkers are friendly and generous. New Yorkers will go out of their way to help you, especially if you've just moved here.

16. Current home-Fargo, N.D.--That entire movie
Yeah, it's cold. But most of the action takes place in northwest Minnesota (where people do talk like that).

Fargo is a pretty decent college town with a big outpost of Microsoft (Great Plains Software) and a number of other high tech employers.
