Disney and Walmart Merge
The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) Board of Directors, mindful of the shareholder vote of March 3, 2004, announced that it is merging the Walt Disney Company with the Wal-Mart Company (NYSE: WMT) to create the world's largest retailing and entertainment conglomerate, which as of April 1, 2004 will be renamed The WaltMart Company (NYSE: MDE).

(snip)

"For example," Ms. Estrin was quoted, "It has come to my attention that the Disney Company was paying Chinese workers 97 cents for each completed Goofy hooded sweatshirt, and Wal-Mart was able to leverage their considerable retail power to get a price of 68 cents on a similar garment. It's easy to see that a $50 sweatshirt produced at 68 cents as opposed to 97 cents is a considerable cost savings. Savings such as these insure we can afford to keep Michael Eisner at his job, and it helps make it easier to gather the fiscal resources for the increasing salary he requires."

2. nearly gave me a coronary
until I saw that this was in the lounge!

Seriously Disney is my biggest client (animation/ Illustration) and one of their departments is up for sale (the Disney Stores). Guess who the most interested buyer is? The above article isn't far from the truth!
(and yes, I will look for new employment if the deal goes through. Whoring myself for the mouse is bad enough, but Wal-Mart is out of the question!)
