HELP!!! with Real Alternative/Media Player Classic
Edited on Thu Apr-01-04 03:07 PM by bain_sidhe
I CANNOT get the sucker to work! First it keeps telling me it can't find "mplayerc.exe" even though I've not only got it, I've put it in about three different files. Then it tells me it can't find DDRAW.DLL, and tells me it's associated with an "export file" with the name DDRAW.DLL:Create (something something - I can't copy and paste the error message, and I forget what all it said). So I reinstalled stuff, upgraded a file the installation program told me I should upgrade (DirectX) and now everytime I click on anything other than the portland station (three hours behind) it opens Windows Media Player (which I also installed in desperation) and tells me the file format is not supported.

ACKKKKKKKK

:grr:

:argh:

and stuff like that. Can anybody spare a clue? I'll make it worth your while... er, somehow!

**edit... fixed the name!**

2. So you think I should uninstall it?
I'm at my wits end, and I only installed it because nothing ELSE was working. Now even that's not working.

5. I've got both that and 1.21
1.22 was hanging up at the "compressing" stage. I let it run for almost a half an hour, and it never "finished" that stage, so I went back to re-download, and the link gave me 1.21 instead - which I installed (didn't hang), so that's the one that I've been working with. I see now the link is to 1.22 again, so I'll try re-downloading 1.22, to see if they fixed it.

6. I had to update DirectX files
Downloaded them from MS website. Not a big deal. I have Win98.

I am now using Realalternative, aka WMP classic with the airamerica website connection. Works like a charm.

7. I had to do that too
but now I can't remember if I installed it before or after my last attempt at installing 1.22. I just finished the download, so I'll try re-installing 1.22 and hope for the best. Keep your fingers crossed!

Direct download link here ... http://www.download-dll-files.com/missing-dll-files/ddraw.zip

Install the dll file Into ... C:\WINDOWS\system32

BEcause, yes, I got it all re-installed (no hang this time) and ONCE AGAIN!! :grr: I'm getting the error message (copied it down this time)

The MPLAYERC.EXE file is linked to missing export DDRAW.DLL:DirectDrawCreateEx

Hoping one of those links you provided has it!

Fingers crwoissssseddddd!

10. PROGRESS of a sort
Ok, now it actually opens Media Player Classic, but says it can't render the file.

BTW, this didn't work until I put the dll IN the Media Player Classic folder - the dll's (I copied all of the ddraw files) are now in both places. But, I already had ddraw.dll in the system folder, just not in the system 32.

:argh: again.

12. Oh, for those playing along at home...
I got it to work by entering the URL directly into the player (using the "file -> open" dialogue), instead of trying to access it by clicking on the link. It's now in my MPC "favorites" file, so I'm not going to change anything for now! It'll probably screw up something else, but I'll deal with that bridge when I spill the milk under it. (or something like that)
