Wife Discovers Man's Pot Farm In Locked Basement
Woman Finds Book On How To Grow Marijuana, Key To Locked Room

GOLDEN, Colo. -- A woman's suspicions about a long-locked basement room have led to the arrest of her husband on a charge of marijuana cultivation.

James Sewell, 45, was taken into custody Thursday. He was later freed on $3,000 bond.

Jefferson County sheriff's spokeswoman Jacki Tallman said Sewell's wife found a book on how to grow marijuana and a key to a room that had been locked for five years.

When the woman opened the basement room door, she found marijuana plants and called sheriff's deputies. Tallman said the deputies obtained a search warrant and confiscated 42 plants in different stages of growth.

2. I think she did a very stupid thing
I doubt she realizes that her actions may lead to their house getting seized. Not to mention any other investments they may have that become 'drug-related assets' now.

Perhaps she should have talked to her husband before she called in the sheriff...

4. Yeah that crossed my mind too

If he wanted to get back at his wife, he could say he purchased everything with the money he made resulting in the wife losing all her stuff.

7. She should have talked to her husband first.
That's just cold.

If my wife found such a pot-farm, it'd be gone when i got home, and she'd be vegged out on the couch, watching cartoons, with several empty potato-chip bags lying around.

8. There is no way she didn't already know
She probably was just pissed off and decided to try and fuck her husband over one day.

9. Agreed
To run a successful pot farm, you need nutrients and supplies (er, um, so I've read). This was going on for five years and she never noticed anything suspicious? The room was supposedly locked for five years and she never once saw her husband going in there? I don't think so.

11. I hadn't thought of that
I wonder if the cops will come to the same conclusion and bust her as well. One can hope. ;)

10. If my husband kept part of the house locked
I'd be really suspicious. Can you imagine, your spouse locks off a room of the house and for five years you gotta be going crazy trying to figure out what the hell they are up to. I wouldn't last 5 hours and I'd be busting down the door trying to figure out what he is hiding.
