Why didn't "Social Network" do better at the Oscars? |
|
I confess I didn't go to see that movie, but I had heard how great it was and how much of an Oscar buzz it got. I know it got some awards but I was expecting that it would get one of the biggies, like best picture.
Wondering if the Academy really didn't think it was that great and that the buzz was completely a PR gesture. Or that something about that movie really turned the film community against it. Something about that movie just turned me off, I don't know what.
I did see "The King's Speech" and I loved every minute of it. Well made, intelligent, beautifully crafted and acted...tough to beat...

2. I haven't seen either of the films....but |
|
I have a very deep love for Colin Firth & Helena Bonham Carter. I've wanted to see The King's Speech since I saw the first preview for it...just haven't had the ability.
Here's hoping that I get to see it....soon. :)

Most of the people that I know who saw it said it was good, not great. A tad overrated.

5. I thought Social Network was good, but not Best Picture material |
|

Maybe I'm just getting too old, but a movie about a group of guys who are douches to each other just doesn't appeal to me. I think this movie got the support it did because it became cool to support it just to show how trendy you are.
I thought Kings Speech was the best film I've seen in quite a while and I'm glad it won. Colin Firth deserved his Oscar, too, proving that his nomination for last year wasn't just a fluke.

I was surprised such a big deal was made about it in the first place.

11. it one three awards--editing, screenplay, and score |
|
It did pretty well, overall. It lost in a few categories to Inception and a few categories to The King's Speech, so I don't think it's indicative that the academy dismissed the buzz as PR.

12. King's Speech was better? |
|
Having seen both...and really enjoying both...I have to say The King's Speech was a more satisfying experience....and I think deserved the awards it received...
I don't think it was a dig at Social Network...Sorkin won an award for his script...well deserved...
Steven Spielberg made a great point. The winner is in great company, as are the movies that don't win (Citizen Kane, Wizard of Oz, Raging Bull)

14. Why did True Grit go 0-for-10? |
|
It's the same answer for both. The Oscars are the oldest award ceremony and sometimes it acts like it.
