God, just great stuff. These cartoons were a staple of my existence, and it seems like I haven't seen them in forever.

3. IIRC, . . .
. . .there was a copyright fight early in the decade. Lots of programmers no longer wanted to pay the escalated rights fees. So, WB basically got told to keep their cartoons.

I'm pretty sure i'm remembering this correctly. Bums me out, too.

5. Eleven episodes are outright gone
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loony_Tunes#Stereotypes

"The cartoons you are about to see are products of their time. They may depict some of the ethnic and racial prejudices that were commonplace in the U.S society. These depictions were wrong then and they are wrong today. While the following does not represent the Warner Bros. view of today's society, these cartoons are being presented as they were originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming that these prejudices never existed."

6. I have those 11 and a few more on my computer.
If you know the historical references and attitudes from when they are made, they are a scream.

I have seen all of the censored cartoons -- we did them a few years ago.

30. Looney Tunes were pretty violent, what few they still show have been edited
Having Coyotes fall from cliffs, Elmer shooting a duck in the face, Yosemite Sam blowing something up with a bomb or Bugs in drag could corrupt our children.

Oddly enough I lived for those cartoons everyday and I turned out pretty non-violent.

17. I don't know the whole story, but I'm betting Warner Brothers allocated
less and less money to their animation department "Termite Terrace" throughout the early sixties. If you watch those cartoons from that time period, you see a lot of story repetition and increasingly rudimentary background illustrations. Eventually, Friz Freleng, a director of some of the best WB classic cartoons, started an animation company with a guy named DePatie. Depatie-Freleng created one good cartoon series, The Pink Panther, and a whole truckload of bad ones. A lot of them were depressing.

The studio that gave us Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and the rest, went out with a whimper in the mid-to-late 60's.

I never liked Disney. I'm sure it is fine, but after watching Looney Tunes I never thought the Disney characters were funny or "enchanting".

31. Too "violent" ...
saw they a while ago on ABC on Saturday morning. For example, they had on a Sylvester/Tweety cartoon that was at Christmastime. Sylvester grabs Tweety and Tweety points a "toy gun" with a cork/string in the front. Sylvester laughs and says "I'll just pop your cork ..." At that point, they goto a still of a Christmas tree, you hear the BANG!, and then you see the after effect.

They've hacked em up.
