is a 19th century arrangement of one movement (by far the most popular) of Bach's Third Orchestral Suite. The arrangement is in C major. The piece you posted is actually Bach's original 2nd movement, not the arrangement. It's a lovely performance. Thanks for posting it.

The original was in the key of D major. The performance you posted is in D-flat (assuming A 440), which may be what the key of D sounds like on period instruments.

When I first clicked on the link, it would play for a while and then get stuck, play again for a while, get stuck again, etc. An hour later it played all the way through with no problems (YouTube weirdness).

Here, for comparison, is "Air on the G String" actually played on the G string of a violin, in the key of C major:

The melody here is more than an octave below that of the original.
