1. I like TaxAct
I use the online version - it's really quick & easy and you can file electronically. I got my state refund in a week, and my federal in about 9 days, I think.

I haven't tried any other for comparison, though.

9. I have used TaxAct for 4 years. I love it! Very easy an cheap.
It asks you questions in normal conversational words. You don't have to understand tax laws or interpret form instructions. You just answer their simple questions and it does the work for you.

I paid a little extra to get my return as soon as it was approved from the IRS (electronically), and it was deposited 10 days after the day that the date the IRS said that returns with itemization would begin to be processed.

2. I have only used turbo tax. I like it but I don't do taxes
except once a year. It grabs all your information from prior years that you've used it. (important to negate even more keystrokes right.) :P
I can't say if its the best or not though.

4. Been using turbo tax for years but it seemed a little buggy last year.
Couldn't get it to install on a Windows Vista machine, for instance, and had to load it onto an older XP machine. The XP machine's about had it now so I'm not sure what I'll use this year.

6. TurboTax has always worked for my wife
Edited on Fri Mar-04-11 03:48 PM by Taverner
She does the books

And Quicken has always been good personal finance software

My advice for both is MAKE BACKUPS. Millions of things can go wrong, and that data is probably the most sensitive data you will own.

8. Lacerte is the best, but it is so FRIGGIN' expensive
Turbo Tax works very well too and they are both Intuit products so you kinda get a little bit of Lacerte in Turbo Tax.

last year when I had to file for the home buyer's tax refund.

12. I've used H&R Block's installable version for years now
It's around $40/year for federal + state; it includes 5 free federal filings. I always itemize my taxes, which is why I don't use the free version online. I've been very pleased with its functionality and ease of use. I file online (federal and state) right through the software, and it's easy easy easy.
