Tips for getting a new cell phone for someone who has been, er, out of the game for a while?

I haven't owned a cell phone in years, but it looks like I'm going to have to get a new one. So, cell phone dos and don'ts from our tech savvy DU experts would be nice.

4. As long as it is not a Bluetooth
I hate those things with the fire of 1000 suns. Whoever invented them needs to be shot.

I used to work in a call center and could tell exactly who was on one and who was not. The sound quality was just awful. It sounded like the caller was talking into a big box fan.

When i have to talk and drive I use speakerphone.

2. IMHO Verizon still has the best coverage
StraightTalk uses Verizon's coverage and is significantly less costly. $30/ 1000mins or $45 unlimited text, voice and mail.

If you don't use much then pay by the minute is the way to go.

3. Hmmm. Not too concerned about costs.
I was wondering if anyone would stick up for Verizon, though. :-)

5. Android OS
Hi,
I had a blackberry that crapped out on me before I was due for an upgrade. I have a Droid X now with verizon and it is fantastic. Good luck finding one that you like and I hope it works well for you.

Peace

6. join the cult and get an iPhone...on att so you can talk, surf, and crash your car at the same time
sure, the $100 a month bill SEEMS steep, til you realize that your life has been meaningless up to this point

9. Heh. I'm tempted.
Despite my hatred for a lot of their "new" practices, I am still Apple's slave.

7. I have been a Verizon customer for years and am very happy with its service.
When my contract expires in September, though, I plan to look at Credo. Their ads claim they charge the same prices as Verizon and AT&T but have a left-leaning, progressive ideology. You may want to look at them.
