Any DU'ers live in the Cape Canveral Cocoa Beach Area?
My boyfriend and I are coming down for the April Launch.

Just got royally reamed for a room.

My BF and I have done Cocoa Beach before and I'd love to see some DU locals at maybe the pier? I fucking love that unpretentious pier!

1. Cocoa Beach is bitchin...
I haven't been to all of the beaches in the U.S., but of the ones I've been to, Cocoa is the greatest, including Daytona...

But it is pretty economically depressed. So that's probably not happening.

2. Congresswoman Giffords will be there.
Story in paper this a.m. It'll be crazy crowded.

Did you post this in the Florida forum?

5. I go there quite often. I stay at Days Inn for about 60 bucks and Comfort Inn for 50-60 bucks.

6. Don't stay at the Comfort Inn near I-95 - they are crooks
We had a four day reservation, confirmed beforehand. Checked in, went birdwatching from 6 AM to 7 PM the next day. Got back to the room, they had rented it to somebody else. They crammed all our clothes and toiletries in our suitcase with no care at all, stole the food we had for snacks, even the unopened stuff. They claimed we had checked out at 10 AM.

It took three hours in the lobby with me raising HELL very loudly with customers coming to check in to get the manager to give us another room. Since it was a fancier room, she wanted to charge us more. I was still raising hell and she finally gave us the room at a lower cost, one night free. But they screwed up - our first night did not show up on our credit card so we got two nights free. "Fancier" room had a refrigerator that did not work. and a microwave that did not have enough power to heat a cup of water.

Comfort Inn is all franchised, individually owned motels. The parent company does nothing to make sure that the quality is good or that the individual locations are properly managed. They won't even take complaints about the individual locations.

Between that dive and the IHop that could not make a drinkable cup of coffee we were frustrated with our visit to Titusville. The birdwatching and Merrit Island National Refuge were amazing but the next time I go down I will do more research on the motels available.
