Shit, Otis our family cat died after years of loving devotion....
And in a bad way. He was 17 years old or so. Email from my Dad...

"Otis liked to sleep on the chair in the office. He was by this time skin and bones because of a tumour. Slept most of the day. I fed Otis at 4:00pm when I went to Council. When Mum got home at 8:00pm she heard scratching. When she went into the office and found him, he had tried to jump up on the chair but missed. His one front claw had stuck on the chair and he was hanging there with one back paw barely touching the ground. His front paw was broken and probably his shoulder dislocated. Knowing his pattern as I did he probably hung there for 3 hours. Mum tried to comfort him but in the end had to have him put down that night."

God damn. Otis was a great cat, he was so good that he was the reason I stopped hating cats. To think of him in that situation is unbearable. The thing I remember most about him that made me like him was when my mom fed him. She would put his food in the dish as he sat there and waited. Then as soon as it was all in my mom would say "There you go, Odie" and just before he ate he'd walk up to the bowl, look up at her and give one quick, "Meow" as if he was saying "thank you."

MOre than me, his greatest accomplishment was making my Mom like cats. ANd he did it cause he was a gentleman.

3. Aww. So sorry. I have an Otis we call "Otie"
Rest in peace to your old buddy.

I'm so glad Otis made your mom stopped hating cats. Cats are the best and to go through life hating the very best the planet has to offer is sad.

7. Heartbreaking
5 1/2 years ago I was looking for a buddy and Loungers suggested I look at a cat shelter. I did and my Max was with me for five years and one week. He passed at the end of last August, one week after I got offered the first real job I'd had in nearly five years. He carried me through the worst times of my life, and I guess he was just worn out at 15.

I cried every day for six weeks and still get misty when I think of him even though I have a new rescue kitty best friend.

My heart goes out to you, but he will live forever in _your_ heart as my Max does in mine.

10. I am so sorry.
Poor Otis! Seventeen is a good long time for a kitty, but I know that doesn't make his passing any easier. I have a 16-year-old, who is in the same condition due to kidney disease. I will definitely keep a closer eye him now.

11. I am so sorry, Heyhey. This is very sad. Otis sounds special,
and be sure to be there for your mother and father, who will feel terrible, even though it is not their fault. It will be a hard time for them to get over this.

Rest in peace, Otis.
