What's the cheapest way to get high-speed internet in NYC? |
|
I'm not looking for any package, such as Verizon Triple Play (with internet/phone/and TV cable). I'm just looking for internet. I don't want dial-up, but it doesn't have to be blazing fast fIos either. DSL should be fine. It just has to have a router, so I can go on through my laptop.

1. Probably DSL and buy a router |
|
Years ago I had Verizon DSL in Brooklyn it worked fine. Routers a simple to configure, you don't have to get one from the company that provides the service.

AT&T has had a deal on DSL service lately -- I ordered it about 3 weeks ago = half price for the first year and the equipment is free with rebate. No contract. They are, however, going to impose a usage cap in May, but they say it will be really high and only affect a very, very few customers (I hope so, this is why I switched from Virgin Mobile mifi- the corporate bastards imposed useage caps and throttled the speed). I just did the installation myself, which was extremely simple -- if they do it, they charge $200, which is a total ripoff for 5 minutes of time.
Anyway, so far, I love it, fastest internet service I've ever had, I can watch streaming video now which I never could really do before without long waits for it to buffer as it loaded.
I'm pretty sure this promotion is still in effect - I saw a commercial for this promotion last night, the first time I've noticed this advertised on tv.
