What kind of Internet access do you need to watch movies on your laptop? |
|
I am going to finally buy one soon...
Also, can anyone recommend a relatively inexpensive ISP?

1. You need something reasonably fast without a ridiculously low cap on download size |
|
What's available at a reasonable price depends on location: you'd do better to ask for recommendations in your state forum. Read the plans carefully. If you have a cap of only a few gb with (say) $0.25/mb overage charge, you could easily get hit with a $1000 bill
Dialup is probably too slow. Cellphone-based broadband around here has low caps and high overage charges. I finally went with DSL. Other options may include cable or fiber-optic: I haven't tried either; but there are some stories on the internet of people who ordered internet cable then had multiyear fights with the ISP about whether or not they should have been paying for TV channel access too; fiber optic is available only in some locations and tends to be expensive
One final remark: a wired connection can be faster than a wireless one

3. AT&T has been advertising |
|
that you can download anything anywhere with their wireless service. I don't have a laptop, only a Mac Mini. But I have Comcast cable Internet and can download movies with no problem.

4. J have Cox Cable here in VA |
|
Very good speed, 30mb/sec with an 802.11N wireless router. I caught the special last month for 34.99 a month, and there's NO data cap :bounce: Verizon FiOS is fast, BUT they offer a G band router/modem, and more importantly their customer service in regards to Billing is TERRIBLE :grr:
