Oh dear god I feel stupid
OK, so I thought it would be fun to help my friend Dave wrap his boss's car in cellophane as an April Fools joke. His boss is very cool; she'd get a kick out of it and be thinking of ways to get him back.

Anyhow, I went over there at lunch and we were about halfway through and all was going well. Or so I thought. What I didn't know was that Dave's boss's soon-to-be-ex husband was driving by to drop off some papers, saw our "vandalism" and called the cops. (Turns out the car title's still in his name.)

Cops came, and I panicked. I'm not really sure what happened, but I'm pretty sure I said "Oh, fuck" and the cop said I mouthed off to him and what would have been a municipal citation since there was no actual damage turned into an arrest for resisting arrest (and no, the linguistic irony still isn't lost on me) and the municipal citation, just for kicks I guess.

I've never been arrested before. I got fingerprinted and, eventually, I'll request the report and there will be a fun mug shot of me to post. At least they didn't do the whole strip search and delouse thing. Small favors I guess.

One thing Whitacre D_WI said is wrong -- he didn't actually have to bail me out, but he did have to pick me up since my car was still at Dave's work.
They actually let me go without charges (I still have the citation, though, and get to appear in Glorified Traffic Court on April 22 with Dave's boss to explain that what we were doing was, indeed, not vandalism). Our lawyer is good.

Thankfully, I have an understanding boss. (Me: "Um, I'll be taking a half day this afternoon. I, um, got arrested." Him: 'HAHAHAHAHA.") Vince's boss was cool, too, but he only mentioned a family emergency.

I guess it could be worse.

Ask me anything.

Or don't.

1. Did they take your shoelaces?
Edited on Thu Apr-01-04 07:43 PM by htuttle
I've been busted for stupid little things like that in the past (well, long ago past), and was always sort of bemused when they'd take my shoelaces.

As if I was going to kill myself over a $105 ticket... :eyes:

Another bit of fun was the inevitable and always hilarious 'taking of the inventory of the pockets'.

Three ATM receipts
Check...

One linty wire thing
Check...

Scrap of paper with phone number, no name
Check...

A stick of gum
Check...

$24.57 in cash
Check..

6. No shoelaces -- business flats
And I actually didn't spend any time in the holding cell. It was pretty much over before it started.

2. Sorry to hear eyesroll
Some people have no sense of humor. Frankly, if it was my soon to be ex wife, I'd let the vandals continue.

Sorry you had to go to jail. That's asinine. I've had to deal with cops recently and know that many aren't a bag of sunshine to deal with.

I *knew* when I met you that you were a "bad sort".

You and Vince should TP the house of the guy who ratted you out tonight.

:P

I honestly have no idea where the guy lives. And he'd know it was us anyway.

9. Too bad you don't know where he lives.
I suppose that makes the flaming-shit-sack a moot point, huh?

4. You know, this is kind of stupid.
I did something incredibly stupid recently that was actually jail-worthy and got let off. (Probably it worked out best for everyone this way...don't want to go into details.) Sorry to hear you didn't. :(

5. I assure you
that you will add great levity to the court's proceedings on April 22. Relax.

18. I have to agree...
contrary to popular belief, municipal judges, and many other kinds, actually do have a sense of humor and don't often have a problem with a silly case lightening up the usually dull and/or morose proceedings with lying defendants pissed off at lying cops.

I've seen courtrooms crack up, and at least once was responsible for an outbreak of the giggles myself.

That doesn't mean it won't cost a few bucks, though. Fines are entertaining, too.

7. "Oh, fuck."
Words for your headstone!

Being arrested really really sucks.....(I'd tell you a story, but I gotta go to band practice.)

Anyway, good luck and let us know if you want us to start a "pay eyesroll's legal fees" fund for you!....

This one I can manage. My own stupidity.
"Oh, fuck" has been known to come out of my mouth at woefully inappropriate times.
(Just ask my dad, who had come come early and was standing at the top of the stairs, and Vince, who was, well, on top of me on the fold-out bed in the basement. Wow, this is eyesroll disclosure day today.)

It would make a fitting epitaph.

edit: Prepositional difficulties.

I just think it's funny that in the midst of a practical joke, the joker is foiled.

Seriously, it sucks they got busted, but I can't resist the schadenfreude. Please don't take it personally.

15. If I'd seen this first, I'd have fallen for it.
I wouldn't believe Vince if he told me the sky was blue. :P

This was better than most though. But, you all pale in comparison to Trumad. People are STILL congratulating Will in GD.
