I used to live about half-an-hour from Wilmington and my band played
this GREAT little dive there (I don't remember the street or the name
of the bar). We had 7-8 people in the band and when we opened, there
might be only 5 or 6 people in the audience (the place would be packed
by our third set).
.
I would get to use one of my favorite lines: "The band LIKES it when
the crowd is this small because if you get ugly... we can kick your ass!"
.
As I remember, the house band was a punk band whose lead singer
performed in nothing but a clear plastic raincoat with a pack of
Marlboros in one pocket.

And NOT strategically placed, so I am told.

(on edit) One of the things we loved (and hated) about playing Wilmington
is that the bars all closed at 1 AM (we were always JUST getting warmed
up to our
usual peak at that time). The good part was that if we THREW
everything into the back of the van, we could race home and get there
JUST in time for last call.
