Post-birthday dinner at Cindy's Diner (ie, see Heidi, makeupless, having her first stip of Mtn. Dew
after 10+ years of Switzerland-imposed deprivation)!

As some of y'all know, I've got these two fun friends/colleagues/co-conspirators/clients, D and R. Over the past two days, I've been traveling with them for work. Last night, on the way home from a meeting in Geneva, they treated me to post-48th birthday dinner at Cindy's Diner, an Americana kinda retro diner (Moevenpick brand) near Bern.

Here are the photos D shot late last night. My first sip of Mountain Dew in 10+ years was (as evidenced by my expression) culture shock.

GULP! *swallow* "What the hell? I used to _live_ on Mountain Dew!"

1. My dear Heidi!
Ah, those pictures are great! The diner people have really outdone themselves...the decor is perfect.

And you look.......well, shocked!

Mountain Dew ain't exactly what it used to be, right?

You naturally enough, look fantastic! I don't think not having makeup detracts from you one little bit, either...

It's great to see you!

2. I was, indeed, quite shocked, Peggy.
I liked the Mountain Dew in a sort of "WTF??? This tastes like like battery acid and sugar" way. But I was awfully tired, so my judgment may have been skewed.

28. GORMY CUSS!
Hi, you! I never see you anymore, but have missed you in The Lounge!

(I used to like Fresca, too -- but in a glass bottle, from a pop cooler in a bait shop. Don't ask me to explain. It's one of those things that tells my age. )

29. Hiya Heidi!
Not really on DU as much these days. I miss you too.
Not need to explain -- Fresca in the bottle was the way to go :-)
As far as telling one's age, I used to drink Kool-Aid sweetened with cyclamates. :P

3. Hey Heidi!
I simply adore photo number two, although I'm not sure that I would have made those chairs the focal point. ;-)

And clearly, I would not touch Mountain Dew to my lips. That said, I'm sure that after ten years of deprivation (of stuff), I'm sure that I would have inhaled every french fry within a ten mile radius. ;-)

5. You're an all-around darling!
I would have chosen red and white decor instead of that muddy shade of red and blue, Cindy didn't even ASK my opinion!

7. That's a nice picture, sweetie.
The diner looks pretty cool, too. Was it regular Mt. Dew or the Throwback kind? I'm glad you're home with CMW and TWEBCNG. :hi:

Not sure what MD Throwback is, but I had the kind in the regular old green can.

Comes in a hillbilly can!

12. Obviously, that's the HFCS version, which tastes like crap
What you need is the Throwback version, which harken back to days of yore.

On the other hand, Moevenpick ice cream is freaking delish.

20. Hiya, MrS!
I don't think the Throwback version is available here, because when I ordered Mountain Dew, the waitress didn't offer me a choice. She just brought the kind in the green can. :(

Cindy's was a great place to experience dinner, but can you imagine this abomindation? NO ONION RINGS on the menu! :WTF:

14. I don't see a jukebox
They should have a jukebox, unless that violates some obscure Swiss law. You, however, are lovely as ever, even without the makeups, and with your taste buds going all "WTF!". :D :loveya:

Thank you for your kind words. It was a looooong couple of days (as the photo reflects).

Gift from my mother-in-law, and I sorta like it, despite my aversion to rings. I'm also wearing earrings in that photo. I occasionally accessorize for business meetings.

As to the Mountain Dew, D and R are very bad influences.

Celebrated in a true post-structuralist style in a post-modern, retro diner

Do they serve Post Toasties?

No Post Toasties, but they do serve American style breakfast: bacon, eggs, ham, biscuits, etc.

Oh, hey! Check out this band I've recently taken a likin' to:

19. You're CUTE!!! And if you HAD make-up on... well, I don't need my heart any broker right now.
.
.
.
I had always pictured you with an incredibly unmanageable curly tangled mop of fiery-red
hair -- something akin to Ellen Cherry's in Tom Robbins' "Skinny Legs & All" (though hers
wasn't red).
.
.
.
Mountain Dew? Meh -- always tasted under-carbonated and insipid to me.

That was my mid morning drink for almost a year before we replace our espresso machine. If the diner doesn't serve onion rings, can they at least make a decent Bacon Burger?
