When do you know it's time to quit your job?

1. When you would rather throw yourself
in front of a speeding vehicle than go in to the office.

2. After you've found another job
that pays more money. That's if you're still sane, however.

3. When you've secured another job.
Once you've done that, make a big scene and walk out.

5. Don't make a big scene
Don't personally tell anyone off or say that you left because so and so was the spawn of Satan. This can make it difficult to get good jobs down the line.

7. I've only been working for them two months.
So it's not like I'm looking for a good reference.

10. No way...write a tell-all book and "time" its release for your last day!
April Fools! :bounce:
Nikia's right...no sense burning bridges. You may need those people again, be they buttheads or not. Settle for the personal satisfaction of knowing you've risen above 'em. Scratch your ear with your middle finger discreetly and smile during your exit interview for additional pleasure.
I know it ain't much, but some day there'll be lots of jobs to choose from again.

6. When you have your offer sheet from a new job...
...however it is time to start looking if you ever hear the words "if you don't like it there's the door" from your boss.

8. I recently quit
And it felt gooooooooooooooooooood.

Make your plans, then make it happen. When you wake up in the morning and know you'd rather gouge out your own eyes with a rusty nail than go back to the office, tell yourself it's temporary. You'll be amazed how easily you'll leave it all behind.

As for your "exit," make it graceful. Be the bigger person. I quit without having another job, mainly because I spent the last two years working for a manager who discriminates against women. HR heard all about it. I was nice nice nice about it, knowing when I left there would be a sh*tstorm.

Corporate Amerika sucks ass. :)

Good luck to you!

9. When you've done all you can do
to improve things and you are doing the non routine things over and over again.

I made that mistake. Luckily they fired me.

11. When the thought
of having to go to the job and the time spent there are actually worse than the sacrifices you'll have to go through for an indeterminate period of unemployment in a Bush economy. If you do something you can freelance or temp at, I say go for it. If not, suck it up and wait til you have something else lined up.

12. When you start searching the web...
for instructions on making small thermonuclear devices, or put the boss's picture on a dartboard...

I've been fired, laid off, given proper notice, and just yelled "This is BULLSHIT!" and stormed out.

They've only got two things on you-- you need the paycheck, or you need the reference on your resume. If you can get over them, just quit. It's only a job.

Sometimes, though, it's not the company or the bosses you care about, it's the people you work with. Cow Orkers, customers, vendors... Watch you don't piss off the ones you get along with-- they're the ones you might want to connect with down the road.
