Ronnie Hammond, singer for the Atlanta Rhythm Section died last Monday
Heart failure at age 60. ARS has been one of my favorite bands for over 35 years.

1. Aw man...!

I've been transferring all my vinyls to MP4, and that song on that album was one of the first ones I picked out.

RIP Ronnie, you were great.

2. You picked my favorite ARS song...
...and my favorite version is from the live "Are You Ready" album, specifically the closing vamp around the 12:30 mark ("It don't matter what you're doing tonight, just as long as it feels right...WHOO!")

One more example of a band that was great in its prime, is now pretty much forgotten by the mainstream, and if you hadn't posted the info on Ronnie's passing, I never would have known. Charlie Sheen blinks and it's front page news on 100 Websites.

Sad, but that's how life normally works.

R.I.P. Ronnie.

3. Until recently, I hadn't listened to "Are You Ready" in over a decade.
I no longer have a turntable. A few months ago, I found it on a music blog (no longer available) and downloaded it. I had forgotten what a great album it is.

Here's a blogger who has some rare ARS albums posted. The last words in his write-up are the download links. You'll need a program to extract the .rar files. I use The Extractor, available on cnet for free.

6. Cool. He's got a lot of good southern rock
and some good links to other music bloggers.

4. Man oh man, that's really a shame
I saw them in about '78 or '79 (my memory of that time is REALLY bad) and I liked 'em. "This is a song for the Jesus hearted people" was my fave because it sort of described where I grew up and lived at the time. RIP Ronnie Hammond.
