Shopping can be SO frustrating |
|
So, the "newer, better" DVD players do not record. The kid at Best Buy says "you need to get a DVR if you want to record TV shows." So I say "OK, show me one of those." His response: "Uhhhh... we don't sell DVRs." FAIL.
Got the same story at Sears, Target, and Radio Shack. WTF?

1. As far as I know, you can only get a DVR |
|
through your cable or satellite provider. I don't have one even though Comcast tried to sell me one. I can live without it.

I just want to be able to record TV shows and watch them later. My DVD recorder died and I was shocked that newer DVD players no longer have recording capability.
All I want is a device that costs $200 or less and can record TV shows so that I can watch them later. I have been able to do that since the mid 80s when I bought my first VCR.
The new Blu-Ray players don't record. And getting a DVR from the cable company involves either upgrading my service (I don't watch all the channels I have now, so I don't want to do that) or paying $16 per month to RENT a machine. They won't sell me one. And neither will Best Buy, Sears, Radio Shack, Walmart or Target.
What is up with that?

4. If the big box stores don't carry them any more, |
|
then go to a home theater store. Although Fry's might still sell them. That's where I bought my Toshiba several years ago. Otherwise, you may have to buy one online, like at J&R: http://www.jr.com/category/video-tv/dvd/dvd-recorders

5. Most satellite/cable providers produce them now. |
|
Dish Network has an excellent one. I don't know about Direct TV or anyone else's for that matter.

6. I'm on Dish Network, too, |
|
but I thought they only offered tuners and DVRs, not blank-DVD recorders. That's what the OP wants, not a DVR.
