I'm scheduled to take it this Saturday. I intend to take it again in three weeks just because I want more time to study. It's the basic GRE, not a subject test.
I'm taking practice tests at home mostly on paper, but the study guide I'm using also has an on-line practice test.
What is the advantage of canceling your score after taking the test? I would like to know how I did on the practice test, but only if the grade will not count. Does a subsequent test cancel the earlier test, or does the grad school admissions committee get grades for every test?
What can I expect at the test center? Are we stuck in tiny cubicles? I understand they allow you the use of a basic calculator. Just what can it do? Square roots? Can you use it for any math question or is it just for certain questions where the focus is on something other than arithmetic?

And the scores will only be submitted if you submit them. You can cancel your scores before you even see them. You can't cancel them after you see your scores.
Why would you waste $160 to take it the first time only to take it three weeks later? I don't understand that. If you're going to throw away that kind of money, don't even go this Saturday and take it in three weeks. At least if you cancel your Saturday appointment now, you'll get your $160 back.

4. The idea was to practice under actual test conditions. |
|
That way there will be no surprises. And I will be able to practice test endurance.
Of course, there is something to be said for not going through that twice, especially since I won't know how I did. It will also blow the day for home practice tests where I will know the grades. So maybe you are right. This is a second career for me. I took the three day bar exam in 1994 and only did that once. Of course there was no way to take a practice bar exam or LSAT, thought there were plenty of study guides and prep courses. I'm reading the Kaplan prep books. Kaplan recommends a practice test under actual conditions.

6. You have to cancel your GRE score immediately, before it's reported. |
|
There'll be a note on your GRE record that you canceled the score, but there are valid reasons for canceling a score, as I'm sure you already know. It's a roll of the dice, re: whether you want that note on your record that you canceled the score.

7. why are you taking two tests? |
|
you should take more practice tests at home on a computer, rather than take two real tests. when your scores get reported to any university, both scores get reported
yes, you are in tiny cubicles

I need more time with the vocabulary flash cards and the math problems.

It has changed a lot since then, but what worked for me was practice, which I see you've done
Good luck!
