Ever wonder what the earth means in astrology?
I'm no astrologer, but I wonder what planet earth would mean if the astrological chart wasn't done on the earth. Like, what if you were born on Saturn or something? I know basically Mars is firesign war, Venus is love, so I just wondered what earth would mean? What's our influence?

I'm tempted to say chaos, but we're such a pretty blue marble. For right now anyway.

1. Earth in Astrology
Each sign is associated with an element. Earth is associated with Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Earth is associated with material possessions, career, duty, responsibility, caution, sensuality, stability, rigidity.

6. thank you, yes, but what if
What if you had to add the earth to the chart, instead of earth as an aspect? A person born on, let's say, a space station would have that in a chart. I'm not sure how you would construct the chart off planet, but we know there are celestial influences at work, whether you could chart and interpret an astrological chart or not. Earth would mean something. But what? I wonder how earth would compare to, say, my mercury in Taurus, making me stubborn, I think it was. What would the earth in Taurus mean, for instance?

8. A couple things...
...avoiding the actual coordinates and math, I would say that if an off-world chart had to incorporate the earth, it would probably represent many of the same characteristics. However, the since all of the signs are categorized by element, elements as they are expressed here on Earth, how would that change a chart where there is no water and the atmosphere is poison gas?

9. That would be another point to consider
Or, along those lines, what if your point of origin was in space, with nothing to use for comparison but vacuum?

In that chart though, what characteristics would earth have? Each planet, along with the sun and the moon, is associated with a particular set of influences, that much I know. So I wonder about the earth, because it would have unique influences too, as a planet on the chart now, like the rest of the planets, but what would it mean? Or for that matter, who would know? Wondering what we are struck me as a funny question. I felt like I just remembered to look up.

3. This actually came up in "Stranger in a Strange Land"
Jubal's astrologer friend Becky tried to do a chart for Mike -- who was born on Mars. It couldn't be done. Mars doesn't even have the same signs of the Zodiac we do (even without Ophiuchus :-) ).

5. Astrology couldn't work on any other planet.
It's based on an earth centered cosmos.

7. well yes, but all the same forces would still be operating
It would take a different model of chart to interpret. But the planets and constellations would still be there, just somewhere else. lol I can imagine peple laughing at the idea, but you know, for real astrologists it would,or will, be a question. It sorta made me laugh, wondering "what are we?"

10. Certainly a Mars centered cosmos, for example, could be created and charted.
However, Mars' sign Aries and all its attributes would to be transferred to another planet. Earth would be the quick and easy choice, but it's not a good fit.

Another thought -- what to do about the people born on moons or in space itself and that's not a distant far future event.
