. . . . . That's feedback, folks. And it's feedback I finally have to hear. . . . . . This should be a two-way street -- and I'm assuming it's my fault that it's not. . . . . . No matter what some very kind people have said -- the non- response feedback is what speaks loudest. . . . . . I'm going to take a break for awhile. . . . . .

...I post all kinds of things from YouTube and such that get page views and no comments. Sometimes one of my posts will spark a fond memory, maybe that person saw the band in concert in their prime or something, but more often than not, people watch the clip, enjoy it or don't enjoy it, and comment or don't comment.
Sometimes I'll put a lot of effort into a poll I think people might enjoy and no one votes...that's just DU, ya know?
Maybe people aren't seeing some of your posts as a two-way street, you know?
Maybe they are appreciative for a much-needed laugh but don't want to run the risk of "one-upsmanship" by posting a response.
I've seen enough comments here to know that you're appreciated...and that's what I'd call the real feedback people are sending you...so I can't say much beyond that, but if you need a break, yeah...take one, recharge the batteries.

12. There are so many of us who seek your posts out EVERY day |
|
I mean, we scour the lounge just for your threads, and we view them and we laugh and we marvel that you've taken time in yet another day to make us laugh, but for whatever reason, we don't reply or kick the thread nearly enough as we should. I am very guilty of that all the time, and I don't even know why. Sometimes I'm just in a rush to view them all quickly because I have limited time, and then just never kick them. I'll bet if there was a "rec" button available, they'd get lots.
We love our MFM posts!

19. My son has behavior issues... |
|
...so one of the things we've done is use positive reinforcement. Depending on the good behavior we are trying to encourage, we've instituted a variety of rewards. Trouble is, he's responding so well that we are not able to keep up the same reward system, especially when it comes to rewards that cost money. It was different when he was earning a reward once a month, or once a week. But now he's earning them every day. We are so proud of him and we want him to keep up the behavior that delights us so much, but we have to adjust our system. We are trying to introduce the idea that good behavior is its own reward. The reward is the internal satisfaction of knowing he is awesome.

. . . ...for awhile and re-build my enthusiaam for doing what I do. . . . The Lounge HAS no rec button -- EXCEPT for a simple "kick". You wouldn't have to "LOL" or anything... that kick would speak volumes. . . . And it doesn't have to be kicked much -- but if you enjoy it, a kick to keep it in play until the next Lounge shift comes in would help spread that laugh. . . . This "request" is for everyone who posts -- I reply to some threads that have held some interest for me simply because I see no other replies and know that just the slightest acknowledgment of existence gives feedback to the OP. And that absolutely NO response can tell any OP "Well... that sucked." . . . "Kicks" can get out of hand -- nothing but one OP's posts near the top of the page... but there's a huge difference between ignored and overkill. . . . I'll be back. . . .

he used to do these as collections to an e-mail list
when you get them like that you can spend more time and it is more personal so you tend to reply more (although I confess I often laughed and forwarded without replying then too)
here there is a LOT more "competition" for attention, not just for funny, but for music/info/vibes/fighting etc etc
anyway, MFM should know that he is appreciated

31. To be honest, I think its overkill. |
|
I like you and think you're a good person, but I don't even click on your threads anymore. Coming to the lounge and seeing so many OPs from one person is discouraging. Its like listening to a top 40 am radio station; there might be some good stuff, but the redundancy prevents me from tuning in. Not to mention other peoples posts that get lost in a cloud of MFM. I could solve my problem by putting you on ignore, but that seems rather harsh.

The man was looking for feedback and I provided some. Sometimes, we don't want to say or hear negative things. Sometimes, they need to be said.
As to the ignore function, its up to each individual to use it as they see fit. I'll use it my way, you do whatever you want.

41. Feedback? More like a grabbed opportunity to tell someone what you thought of him. |
|
If seeing so many of MFM's posts are irritating, then you should be using the ignore feature -- that's the purpose of it. Then it'll be much easier for you to navigate the forum. Using it is nowhere near as "harsh" as the "feedback" you seemed to think MFM was asking for.
MFM's posts are so uplifting I'm baffled how they could irritate anyone. For myself, his posts keep me coming to the Lounge. I think he's gifted in humor as well as in his writing. That's my reason for speaking up; I don't want him feeling discouraged.

|
Maybe its time to calibrate the clairvoyance.
I have a great deal of respect for MFM. He brought the Lounge back from near death (a fact that I have posted before). He has also posted some great OPs in GD - the reason I won't put him on ignore. It is out of respect that I gave him an honest response. It would have been much easier and safer to simply not respond. At post #31, mine was the only negative reply. I knew it would not be popular. Being honest has served me very well. Sometimes I pay a price for it, but that's pretty rare and well worth it. I really don't care who might be baffled by it, or may disapprove of it. I am what I am.

But at least my speaking up gave you the opportunity to explain why your previous words were so harsh. As you can see by all the positive feedback MFM has gotten, there are many who disagree with your complaint that there are too many MFM posts. Why should MFM change for one poster when there are so many who look forward to reading them?
I'm glad that you respect MFM, as we all do.

|
I simply gave my opinion. Nor, did I say I was harsh - that's your take. I don't owe you or LucySky an explanation for comments directed at MFM. He and I have communicated with each other over time here on DU, and I'm sure he has his opinion of me. He can take my opinion for whatever he thinks its worth. I wonder if you two ever stopped to think that running to someones defense like that could be seen as insulting. I don't know if MFM would see it that way or not, but I don't think he's too shy or timid to handle himself on this board.

We just call her Lucy, and the dog responded to it within a day. She's a very bright little dog and not at all 'yappy'.

39. If you are not floating on the top of the topic list . . . . |
|
. . . . it doesn't mean anything at all. There is such a huge number of topics / replies / views throughout the day, how would it be if one person was so popular their posts were always at the top of the list?
I would probably click to see what the big deal is, like 'andibandi' at Webshots who has been #1 since I first saw the place in around 2000. And andibandi's a pretty hot little photographer, but I like to see whatever kind of pics strike my fancy at the moment. Even if I agree andiband's the best -- he or she (I thinks she's a girl) would still be #1 without my input.
And, my posts will always sink like a rock but does that make me not want to post? I always will post if it moves me to do so. I may laugh at other people's posts, get pissed, get sad, cry, say to myself, "I know just how you feel," but I don't necessarily post about it.
Topics grab me as I scroll down and I line them up in tabs and then enjoy reading them all. I don't pay much attention to who the authors are until something they say is significant to me in some way.
I find the responses to this here post of yours quite interesting. I come here to get a feel for the 'pulse of America' and what they all seem to agree on in such a lock-step manner.
Then I come to the Lounge to lighten up or cry about somebody's kitty or lost loved one . . . . or find some cool links to videos, whatever.
And if I start to take things too personal, which usually won't happen at DU, it's too huge, I just go away and don't come back until I feel like it.
How many people come here just to find out what some particular poster in particular has to say today?
It's a question! Seriesly!

I post at another board, and have been taking a break from there, for other reasons. Sometimes you gotta do it, for your own self. I get that.
That being said, I have to say, coming here and clicking on your links, has given me some of my biggest laughs and giggles and if I haven't fully shared that fact, I apologize. Honestly, I've shared your stuff elsewhere, and bookmarked some of your links, cause they just make me feel good when I've had some dark times. And, recently, I've had some seriously dark times. It's been good to chuckle at some of your links. Been good for me, just wanted you to know.
Hey, take care. I will miss your cartoons and links and general silliness. Cause we all need that in our crazy lives. Hugs.
