Has anyone else here never seen an Elizabeth Taylor movie?
I've never seen one. Not really interested in seeing one either.

1. Why shout out one's ignorance?
Edited on Thu Mar-24-11 09:45 AM by CBGLuthier
Not meant as an insult but essentially that is what you are doing. I am not her biggest fan but I have seen her more important movies. I saw them because I consider seeing important movies a part of a well-rounded education and life experience.

I will join you though and proclaim now that I have never seen Hillary Duff or Lindsey Lohan in anything. Someone let me know if they do anything important before they die.

2. haha, 90% of DU shout out their ignorance every day...I guess I was being more direct about it.
I've just never been interested in older movies and can't sit through them. Just not interested.

I think there's just a disconnect in the different generations so when someone super famous dies, many of us just don't understand.

8. you're missing some great entertainment
Most of her films put modern drivel to shame. If you want to see two of the most beautiful people on the planet act their asses off in a movie watch Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. The rest of the cast isn't bad either with Burl Ives as Big Daddy. To this day I think Paul Newman was the greatest actor to ever make films because he did those scenes with Liz wearing just a slip and heels and he never once drooled. If that had been me I would've needed a mop.

9. i don't think i have but i would like to
she was a great human being and did so much as a fighter against AIDS and i really know her best as a humanitarian... her movie star days were before my time, and i'm not a big movie goer to begin with

i've seen short clips, or photos, and it was obvious that she was a strikingly beautiful young woman, but in her case her inner beauty may have actually over shadowed her outer beauty

like, it's seen the butterfield 8 photo of her in the slip, just gorgeous, but this is a rare beauty that we think first of her kind actions instead of just her curves

12. Ok. Which "Jackass" movie do you think is the best film of all time?
Edited on Thu Mar-24-11 07:14 PM by triguy46
No need to discuss art or acting. Or is it that all the best things ever happened since 2006?

17. Wow, nice irrational generalization there.
Older movies just aren't my thing. I watch tons of movies and have my entire 33 years, but it's a rare case when I go back to watch something before 1975 or so. Though the Wizard of Oz is one of my favorites of all time. And Mary Poppins.

18. Right, I feel like I should watch them because they're classics...
but I just really can't sit there and have any interest.

There are many classics I haven't seen also, no James Dean movies, never seen Gone With The Wind, or Casablanca, or Miracle on 34th Street, or Citizen Kane.

Usually when I do watch older movies I'm disappointed. It's tough to understand the context of what was going on in the world at the time and stuff, so for some reason I just don't "get it". Oh well.

22. I'd pass on Citizen Kane
Seen Gone With the Wind (It was alright, I won't sit through it again 'cause it is so long) and Miracle on 34th isn't bad.

Besides that, I totally get what you're saying. I have no desire to watch any of Taylor's movies.

25. Maybe I gotta see it again
Edited on Fri Mar-25-11 12:42 AM by JonLP24
I swear it is one of worst movies I ever seen. There was this one character that was over-acting. I can't remember the character, he had a very bitter face in some scenes. Maybe if that character wasn't over-acting those scenes it would be better.

That movie actually has me afraid to watch Casablanca which was a movie I was curious to see before I watched Citizen Kane.

15. National Velvet was the first one I ever saw.
She was breathtaking. She was a classy gal and always a good friend (I hear). She sounds like one amazing woman. I would have liked to have met her.

20. I never have
I really have had no interest in them

A co-worker told me that "A Place in the Sun" was good.

I have also never seen a complete "I Love Lucy". No reason other than there has to be something else to watch.
