What am I doing wrong with my cursor?!1

This is a laptop, so I don't know whether the pressure of both mitts while typing triggers this:

I'm typing somewhat extensive text. Suddenly the regular typing cursor changes into the 4-arrows directional thing and it won't let me type or even double-tap my way back to the typing cursor and I can't move it in a controlled way and then the movements cause the text size or Window size to zoom in or out. I can't "place" the cursor in a directed place.

??????????? Any direction will be appreciated. (However, it's late & won't see it till tomorrow.)

1. Maybe you're accidentally executing a keyboard command without your knowledge.

Could be in the setting of your word processing software. Could be in your keyboard/hardware configuration.
