What was for dinner tonight DU? I made rack of lamb, baked potatoes with green onions and sour |
|
cream, sweet baby peas, red wine...all for my dad's 81 birthday. I bought a cake from the bakery at the grocery store that was all icing and not very good. I should have just bought an old fashioned chocolate cake. My bad.

1. I'm having exactly what you're having! (As far as the wine goes, anyway) |
|
The rest of my dinner is still in the TBD phase... :)
Happy birthday to your dad! Bet you made his day with that feast.

4. Venison stew made with dark beer |
|
carrots, green beans, mushrooms, pearl onions, corn in a rosemary sauce and served in large shallow bowls over a mound of mashed potatoes in the center.
It's still cold here in Northern New York so I thought I would take advantage of one of the last days of soup/stew weather.
Happy birthday to your dad!

7. I made potato latkes, husband made breaded tilapia, |

and we finished it off with a cole slaw that was very light on the mayo and heavy on the vinaigrette.

8. Home-made black-eyed peas with ham hocks, and a side of corn bread |
|
The peas were from the farmer's market last year,we bought a bunch, shelled and froze them for later. The ham-hocks were from a local butcher. I only added leeks (from the farmer's market yesterday), and a little pepper. The ham hocks had enough salt for the pot - after the initial blanch and rinse of the peas, there was no need for any more. The corn bread was from Jiffy mix, though. I find they make better corn bread than I do!
My husband and step-daughter from Alabama approved.

9. Hamburger Helper tonight. |
|
And a can of peas mixed with carrots.
We ate well yesterday, though. Leftyclimber and Mrleftyclimber brought over pork shoulders and their smoker, and we had smoked pork with mustard barbecue sauce, leftyclimber's famous coleslaw, our friend Jessi's chickpea salad, and my homemade chocolate cake.
Things are tough right now, but that was a *very* welcome treat.
