NASA's First Pictures of Mercury Taken From Orbit

I remember Mariner X as a kid, but the pictures were never like these:

1. Looks kind of like our moon

gray with lots of craters. I had always imagined Mercury to be more reddish/flaming because of its proximity to the sun.

It would be great if they could analyze soil samples to check for similarities between our moon and Mercury.
