I Guess I Just Wasn't Made for These Times
I have never heard a song that better expresses how I feel 95% of the time. Most of the time I really feel like an alien banished to this planet by mistake, because I certainly don't belong here. My buddy Brian Wilson said it best (I think he speaks for a lot of people):

---------

I keep looking for a place to fit
Where I can speak my mind
I've been trying hard to find the people
That I won't leave behind

They say I got brains
But they ain't doing me no good
I wish they could

Each time things start to happen again
I think I got something good goin' for myself
But what goes wrong

Sometimes I feel very sad
Sometimes I feel very sad
(Can't find nothin' I can put my heart and soul into)
Sometimes I feel very sad
(Can't find nothin' I can put my heart and soul into)

I guess I just wasn't made for these times

Every time I get the inspiration
To go change things around
No one wants to help me look for places
Where new things might be found

Where can I turn when my fair weather friends cop out
What's it all about

Each time things start to happen again
I think I got something good goin' for myself
But what goes wrong

Sometimes I feel very sad
Sometimes I feel very sad
(Can't find nothin' I can put my heart and soul into)
Sometimes I feel very sad
(Can't find nothin' I can put my heart and soul into)

I guess I just wasn't made for these times

-------

I'm sorry. I'm just feeling really down tonight. I really don't want to feel that way.

5. It's a great song. Brian Wilson in '66
That whole album (Pet Sounds) has a very melancholy feel behind some of the cheery melodies.

8. It's an absolute classic, like all the songs on Pet Sounds
I heartily recommend this album to anyone who will listen. It is absolutely and without question one of the greatest records ever made.

And I didn't mean to come off as a wet blanket tonight. I'm usually a pretty sarky, que-sera-sera kind of guy. But I was listening to that album again today and I realized how much that song expresses how I feel. God bless people like Brian Wilson who can say and/or sing things that we cannot.

10. I need to find that one
I remember hearing it in a movie once (but I can't remember what it was). I instantly recognized it as a Brian Wilson tune, and it was really good.

One of my favorite quotes of all time is from Brian Wilson. He said that the reason he wanted to make good music is that he sincerely believes that music is God's voice. And although I've never been a very religious person, I think he has something there.

9. Feel better. It emphatically isn't you; these times are insane
If you're not made for them, then you're one of the good guys, and if you're here then you're trying to change them. Give yourself a hug; you're on the right side and in the right place.
