The past keeps slipping from our fingers
Last week, I went to the funeral of a Tuskegee Airman; he remembered people who had been born in slavery. I probably still know one or two people who remember people born in slavery, but they're frail

Lilienthal's fatal crash occurred several weeks after these 1896 photos. I never met the photographer, RW Wood: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_W._Wood . But I do personally know at least one person who knew Wood. So perhaps it was really not so long ago that Lilienthal was flying
