I'm just ill . . . and disgusted . . . and furious . . .
about a half mile from my home is a small shopping center housing a Stop & Shop, some small stores, a pizza place, and an Eckerd pharmacy which, until recently, was CVS . . . I do a lot of my shopping there, and have for the past 15 years . . . throughout this time, the manager of the pharmacy has been a guy named John, who I got to know over the years in a customer/store manager kind of way . . . hell of a nice guy, always helpful, very laid back, in his late 40s . . .

about 3 weeks ago, I read a small item in the local paper reporting that John had apparently gone missing . . . he'd opened the store one morning, but wasn't there when the employees arrived, and hasn't been heard from since . . . I'd pretty much forgotten about it until this evening, when my brother came in with some horrific news . . . this evening they found John's body dumped behind the shopping center . . . not only had he been murdered, but he had also been decapitated and his hands had been cut off . . .

I'm absolutely ill over this . . . this was one of the sweetest guys you'd ever want to meet, well known and well liked in the community, someone who's managed the same store for over 20 years . . . why anyone would do this to him -- how anyone could do this to any human being -- is something that I just can't get my mind around . . . I'm also incredibly angry that this could happen in my town, and just a little scared that there's someone out there capable of this . . .

I'll post the article from the local paper when it comes out tomorrow morning . . . meanwhile, say a prayer or think a good thought for a good man whose life was tragically ended for no apparent reason . . . and that they catch the bastard (or bastards) who did this . . .

I'm gonna go have a drink . . .

1. Someone was after the drugs
I recently worked at a CVS, they take the powerful stuff ~very~ seriously.

Still, that kind of thing is just uncalled for, nobody deserves to die over some little pills.

6. I'd also wager they were very dumb or high on something
I mean, cutting off the head and hands for ID purposes is one thing, but then leaving the body behind the store? That doesn't add up.

2. Sorry to hear it.
There's something about the sudden, unexpected death of someone you know that cuts deep. It's worse when the loss is through violence.

But I will say that I deeply believe that John is in a better place.

7. That is a huge amount of rage.
I dunno-- that is a huge amount of rage to do anything like that. I have to wonder if maybe this wasn't a personal thing for somebody rather than a robbery gone bad.

Either way--I'm terribly sorry for all of you who knew him and his surviving family. How horrible!

Very gruesome ending. May his family find some comfort and may his killers be caught and punished.

10. I'm so sorry to hear about this
I can only hope that they catch the people who committed this absolutely horrible crime so that no one else gets hurt (and these cowards get what they have coming to them).

My thoughts are with you and John's family ....
