Funny story from my daughter's MMA club in college. |
|
If you aren't familiar with the TLA, MMA stands for "Mixed Martial Arts" and it incorporates techniques from a variety of disciplines, often involves close-up sparring, and typically includes grappling.
So, she was working with a partner on a move where he launched an attack that was supposed to send her to the floor from where she would respond and disable him. She just couldn't get it right. Finally, she told the instructor that she felt her prior training was interfering with her ability to correctly implement the MMA technique they were working on. She's a 2nd degree black belt in Tang Soo Do.
He said, "Okay then, how would you respond to his attack based on your prior training?" The guy, a much larger person than her, made the offensive move and she flattened him in a split second. The instructor thought for a moment and said, "Yeah, okay. That will work too." and moved on to work with someone else. That tells me that he "gets it" about MMA.
