I love my Grandma. But next time she's going to have to get professional movers.
I just spent almost 10 hours moving her out of my parents house and into an apartment.

We filled the largest U-haul available. We started out with 3 people but my brother had to leave for work. Which left me and my uncle.

We had to move an entire U-haul up 2 flights of stairs.

NEVER FUCKING AGAIN. :grr: :hangover:

1. We all learn things in different ways. Some of us like first hand
learning, learning by doing. Others learn from anecdotal evidence. First hand testimony, as it were.

3. That was a really good thing you did. You will get over it.
Yep, you are exhausted now. But it wasn't that bad. You will live. I don't move myself for one reason---and that is it. Hell, even with professionals, it is a pain in the ass. She still has much to do.

You done good.

4. Moving is always harder than you think it's going to be.
that's why I've been in my apartment for 19 years.

I would NEVER ask friends or family to help -- I'd rather pay someone. They have the correct tools - dollies, straps, muscles, know-how, etc.

BUT don't forget - it was great of you do to this and some of us here know it first hand.

congratulate yourself but NEVER DO IT AGAIN

5. Famous last words...
dh and our family has helped to move his grandmother not just once, but four times. Each time required downsizing and selling household items, hauling stuff to the trash, etc. The last time we helped move her from NJ to a FL nursing home to be near his parents (she passed away two years ago). Lots of trouble, but hey--it's family, you know?

6. I can commiserate
I once had to help move a standard piano first in and then out of a second floor apartment. I nearly got flattened through a guardrail.

8. One of the nice things about being in my 60s
is that no one asks me to help them move anymore.
