I guess I am getting old because many of the new "in-words" just seem to cause my poor ears terrible pain.
For example, yesterday in Costco I had a well educated friend of mine say (in a serious tone), "This chicken cordon bleu is good, in fact it is very yummy". Very yummy? Personally I always felt the word yummy was reserved for six year old girls with pony tails and missing front teeth, but I guess not. It is now a word public accountants regularly use at power lunches.
My son's friends use epic all of the time. It is an epic test, an epic game, an epic everything. I always thought epic was reserved for something so large it boggles the mind. Space is epic, the Godfather was an epic film. In my world, Adam Sandler has done nothing on screen that even remotely qualifies as "epic". My kids disagree.
Ah well, I guess I am on my way to being a curmudgeon.
