That was definitely a special project for him. She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and the other two parts of his 'cavalry trilogy' are also good examples of his work.

wonderful film that is set in a Welsh mining town, slowly heart-breaking. Has a young Maureen O'Hara and Roddy McDowell.

Fort Apache, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon and Rio Grande
Stage Couch, The Searchers, The Grapes of Wrath, My Darling Clementine.
If you can find it, the semi documentary The Battle of Midway
Ford brought out the best in both John Wayne and Henry Fonda.
