So...the nice UPS man brings my bass guitar to my door today.
AND...the writing on the box says I shouldn't open it for 48 hours so the change in temperature doesn't crack the finish!

ARRRGGGH!!

I shoulda just bought it when I saw it, instead of shipping it. ARRRGGH!

that it's a Ric, which I'm guessing is making the wait that much harder. ;)

(I have a Fireglo Ric 360/6 and it's my favorite guitar.)

Edited to add: this is going to sound weird, but wait until you experience the "Rick-O-Smell" when you open the case. Seriously! It smells a bit like vanilla--at least mine did, anyway.

I took the case out of the box, but then I chickened out and haven't opened it. It's torture. It's like Schrodinger's cat.

ETA: Those fireglos are lovely.

ETA2: I've heard about the Rick-O-Smell! I can't wait!

3. Damn, that's brutal. If I was a UPS guy, I'd write that on boxes, just to screw with people
Of course, if you put it in the freezer for a while, it will acclimate faster. Or the oven, I can't remember...

Congrats on the new bass!

5. What?
Was it shipped from the seventh circle of hell?

That is bullshit.

Your slab has been in a UPS truck for at least 8 hours.

Open it up, and let rip.

And while I keep the house chilly, it is warmer than the outside...

Unless you ordered a Stradivarius, it won't make a difference.

12. The most severe temperature/humidity changes will (slightly) affect the curvature of the neck.
But, that's why basses have adjustable truss rods.

A Rick's finish isn't a delicate flower.

Rip into it like you're five years old and it's Christmas.

Believe Me, Or Not!

Big Reveal.

I did what one is supposed to do on the Internet: I googled what I should do and found all sorts of horror stories of finishes cracking or popping or spiderwebbing. It's as bad as googling a run-of-the-mill symptom and coming up with Morgellons.

16. What would Sarah Palin do? She'd open the guitar case
grab the thing by the neck, and smash the first Halibut she sees.

She's badass, and will make a fine president some day.

:hi:

Thanks for all the input, all of you!
