"He who does not believe in miracles is not a realist."
Twenty-nine years ago today (pic from April 10, 1982), this woman

looked me in the eye and vowed to spend the rest of her life with me.

Today, we are still together (pic from late May, 2010):

Now, I couldn't win a lottery if there was just one ticket and I owned it.
But in THIS lottery, life's lottery, I won the grand prize.

The quote is attributed, in various versions, to David Ben Gurion. I tend to agree.

9. Thanks--that's not a given
Ten years ago she was diagnosed with cancer, and we went through a year of hell (chemo, radiation, rehab),
and then 3 years later, I had the closest of cardiac near-misses I could have had without doing a permanent
fade-out.

But we're still here, and will be so as long as Mother Nature and modern medicine will allow.

10. She's the keeper, I'm just concerned she'll find her glasses one day and leave me
I got the tie at some tourist stand at Boston's Quincy market an eon ago.

Nowadays, I don't leave home without it!

11. Thanks for that!
In fact, this is the first or second anniversary apart we have spent. I had to be in the States,
and she just couldn't come this time. But I'm with my brother and sister-in-law (we had a double
wedding) in northern Virginia, so it's not like I'm totally away from the parties involved.

The tie is one of my faves, too!

You did indeed win life's lottery.....you both did!

You both have beauty...both the outside, physical kind, plus the inner, radiant kind...

I wish you both many, many more happy years!

24. Thanks from both of us, Peggy!
She does radiate, it's true.

Two years ago or so, an old friend of ours who now has teenage sons came to visit with his family.
He remarked later that at his age, he never could grasp how men could be so attracted to "older"
women until he met my wife, and after that, he couldn't stop talking about her (don't get any
ideas, kid, I'm still alive and kicking! LOL!!).

How many more years we have depends on how good we are at stealing them from Mother Nature, but as
long as we can both get away with it, we intend to get away with it together (don't forget "Ro-BAIR"
and Anne: don't just settle for the possible--go for the impossible while you still can!).

32. My life could be over any second of any day
So, while I try not to obsess about my medical condition, I also try to remember to enjoy each day
like it's something special. As long as I have her, it usually is.
