Since my original post was locked, I'll rephrase and repost.
We have some unruly neighbors living next door. Two sisters living with their countless kids. They don't have a basketball hoop, so they're shooting into a plastic recycling bin, strapped to a metal garbage can. I don't want to be a dick and yell at them, but it's pretty obnoxious. What would you do?

3. Watch for good used backboards & hoops at yard sales for cheap.
Maybe you can get some cool neighbor cred for 5 bucks or less. Worth a try, but by no means a sure solution.

6. Well, two things
First off, they're not poor, so they can afford their own backboard. And secondly, they're renting from our former neighbors who, let's just say were the neighbors from hell. Everyone on the block hated them and we all were glad when they moved. The upside is they're a year into a two year lease. So they won't be there forever.

8. If you have an association, they will listen to you.
I got rid of some perverts who were bothering my daughter and when I told them to knock it off, they started parking ugly vehicles in front of my house.

You would be amazed if you have an activist leader what can be done, how many codes they violate, how mnay people can be squeezed into a place, etc.

7. Why would you yell at them?
You haven't said anything about going over and speaking to them about the noise so I'd think making a reasonable suggestion like getting a hoop would not be out of line.

I'd try talking to them first.

Having had children, I don't or didn't notice the noise they were making outside near as much as a neighbour might. You just get used to it especially if you have a few kids in your household.

We were fortunate to live in the country so the kids yelling and having fun didn't bother anyone and I was able to ignore it, they were having fun. Not getting into trouble and learning how to get along with one another.

just my 2c.

Gift 'em a backboard, neighbor.

Win/Win.
