2. Nah. It's the Michigan Opera Theatre
Here in Detroit. Unfortunately it'll be in English. I hate opera in English!

4. You should be able to understand it in English.
That one started out in German, ya know. Unless your German is as good as your English.

What I found helpful was Surtitles (TM). They project the words up above the stage in English and you can read them. That made all the difference in the world in my understanding of opera.

Any opera by Mozart or Puccini, you csn't go wrong.

Sarastro, the Queen of the Night, the Three Ladies, the three little boys, Pamina, Tamino....great characters and beautiful music.

8. It was surtitled
And even though it was in English, it helped. It also reminded me how the singers repeat almost ever line at least once. I think The Magic Flute could be cut down to about an hour if they didn't repeat everything. I've actually seen it about four times. This was the first time in English. My feeling is that English just isn't a good language for opera. The sets were excellent--designed by Maurice Sendak.

7. i so want to go see the magic flute in 2012
at the chicago lyric opera. tickets go on sale in august. it will be my first opera. i have to hear the queen of the night's aria in person.
