9. Brussels give a similar urine odor.
At least to me.
Not quite as sharp, but definitely distinctive.

I loved asparagus, broccoli, beans, all that stuff. The only vegetable I HATED were green peppers. My parents used to make salad and just load it up with raw green peppers (and force me to eat it), to this day I can't stand the stuff. Cooked green peppers I can deal with though.

6. Growing up, I HATED asparagus to the point where it was 1 of only 2 things I didn't HAVE to eat...
Edited on Thu Apr-14-11 06:20 PM by MiddleFingerMom

...the other being fish.
.
.
.
.
Now, it's my absolute favorite veggie. Hated Brussels sprouts
and mushrooms -- love 'em today. ALWAYS loved loved loved
lima beans.
.
.
.
.
And I kinda like the urological aroma -- a deep-woodsy smell.
.
.
.
.
Ten years ago, I SWEAR there was a TON of poetry on the Intertubes
(especially haiku) about that very subject -- well-written FUNNY stuff).
Some of it was from historically well-known poets!!!

,
Today, I couldn't find a single one.
.
.
.
.
.
Once, about 15-20 years ago... I had gone for almost a year without
any asparagus. Had a good 1/2 pound for dinner and went to my job
(third-shift). Went to the bathroom and, when it WAFTED up (in yer
FACE)... I swear I immediately started thinking about my recent sexual
history. Then, I remembered and it was like, "Oh yeah, baby!!!!"

7. We've got little purple penises coming up right now - they'll be ready in a few days.
The bed has both green and purple crowns, but the purple ones always come up a week or two earlier. They're thicker, too.

32. Yeah, that's a problem. We munch a significant amount of it right out of the garden.
Within a couple of weeks we'll have more than enough to munch outside as well as to cook. I like lightly steaming it or using it in a stir fry.

40. No. The first year you leave it alone. Second year, skim. Third+ eat all you want.
And they are BEAUTIFUL plants. The ones that grow tall turn into 4' fern-like trees with small reddish-orange berries that look like something out of a fairy forest. I've only got a 4'x8' bed with about 20 crowns and that's more than enough to keep us happy.

Just prepare a bed about 1 1/2' deep - add humus if necessary. Put in the crowns and be patient. They'll keep going for 20 years or so. Oh - now is the time to do it.

22. On the urination issue
Hi,
I like the stuff myself. Did some roasted a week or so ago with some good olive oil and salt and pepper. My understanding is that it only effects 50% of the population or so, or at least not everyone. I know it effects mine. I only get it a few times of the year when it is cheap.

Peace

The best is walking out to the garden and picking a couple of stalks and eating them on the spot. Nothing is as delicious as freshly picked asparagus!!

Like Brussels Sprouts you don't want to overcook. I steam them for five minutes, maybe a touch more. Better undercooked than overcooked.

Simply mist with olive oil, sprinkle with sea salt and grill.

The best veggie from on the grill that there is.

Soak some wooden skewers in water and build rafts from them
as in the picture. It makes them easier to turn on the grill.
