beer-swilling football-watching troglodytes will say that I am while you sit in the wallow of your Velvet Elvis festooned clap-board-panelled country duck decor mobile home sitting on the edge of some forlorn and unimaginable hell of a small country town with a pot-bellied sheriff and a ludicrously alcoholic mayor in which the barely-employed citizenry gathers each evening at one of the local smoke-filled filthy saloons with broken pool tables and Pabst on tap to play Euchre for nickels and in which overall donning men in feed hats try to hit on the beehive-sprouting bartendress to take her home for an evening of rutting on unwashed sheets on a bed with rusty springs forcing the rest of the SRO boarders to follow along with every half-educated grunt.

10. I find that I'm getting pretentious as I get older. At least when
it comes to current events, popular culture, and the pitiful trainwreck that is predictable human behavior. My wife finds me insufferable when she's trying to chill out at night to Soapnet and I'm castigating all the closeted gay actors and plastic starlets. I try to shut up but can't. I really do try. I go to movies and see previews for new slop starring Lil' Romeo and say "Oh, fer Chrissakes!"

I'd like to be more live and let live--intellectually I see the value of it, but I just can't shut up and be, sometimes.

30. Well, my favorite novel is THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV...
...I frequent the movie theaters at Trinity College and Real Art Ways, and I disdain mainstream TV, radio and music.

Who the fuck are you calling pretentious???

36. You know. I think you might qualify. I shall check the rule book.
Hmmm. Your knowledge of '60s soul would seem to work against you. Any genre centred on Detroit and Memphis cannot be considered pretentious.
Maybe you should try listening to Enya, or Yanni.

39. I think I am a little...
books.. sniff at the Danielle Steele rack (esp the ones with The Kiss on the cover, sigh. Head for the poetry and women's criticism, but I do read mysteries, so maybe that gets me off the hook)

Music... yes, although I am not as snobbish as SOME

Beer... yes, somewhat. Don't drink a lot, so when I do I want imported or microbrews. Case in point, High school reunion " Me: "Don't you have any real wine or at least Rolling Rock?" Granted this was in a small town Legion Hall. Have been accused of being a yuppie, but am more of a bo-yup. (meaning not a lot of money and you haven't seen my "yard.")
