My hobby expanded last weekend. |

I like to hunt arrowheads in the farm fields around my town and a friend told me to start looking on creek banks for them,he said it is a good place to find fossils as well.I went last weekend and didn't find any arrowheads, but found a few fossils. The thing that I did find was a lot of plastic and other assorted trash, enough to fill my backpack.Next time I go I will take a garbage bag with me.
The way I see it,its almost as fun to clean up the creek as it was to look for things and besides you never know what might be under the trash. If anyone here enjoys walks in the woods or whatever, take a trash bag with you,its an easy way to help clean up things that would ruin a good view or kill wildlife.Thanks. Newbie, don't know if this was the right forum.

2. I used to take my son and a friend to a creek |
|
in a nearby nature reserve when they were younger. On a hot day they liked to sit on the little dam and dangle their legs in the water, but some broken bottles were around, and tangled fishing line (some with hooks), plastic bags, aluminum cans, etc., so I would use one of the plastic bags to collect trash. I thought people who like to fish would know better than to leave fishing line for a bird or other creature to get caught in... What kinds of fossils did you find ?

i've never seen before,it almost looks like a little volcano about 1-1/2 inches high and about 2 inches across on the bottom. It even has a little vent or something on top.I'll take a picture and post it in this thread tomorrow.I agree about some fisherman, styrofoam bait tubs are a problem around a lot of lakes.

5. One of my first hobbies was rock collecting. |
|
It was such a thrill to find something "unusual". I had a large shoebox under my bed filled with rocks shaped like continents, rocks that "sparkled", rocks that were pretty colors.

Hi, The searching for arrowheads and fossils sounds fun, and picking up the trash is always good. I visited some of the Native American mounds in Ohio one year, very interesting.
Welcome to DU, and as always, peace.
