Why do so many people think they have a quick, pat, simple solution to other people’s problems? |
|
For instance, recently I was talking to a friend, who generally seems to have good common sense. I said that if I were to lose my job, I wouldn’t know what to do except start or buy a business.
She said, “Have you ever tried to get a full-time job with the state? Or with (Local) County Library?
I looked at her, flabbergasted. I thought, What planet are you living on? This woman works with the local school district…and at the end of last school year, there were cuts and she just managed to hang onto her job because, luckily, retirements of other people made that possible. The state and local library are hard up for money due to budget cuts—and they sure aren’t doing much hiring.
I guess my astonishment showed, because then she said something like, they usually have someone lined up for any full-time jobs that are advertised. Which is true at my workplace, and from my experience, most of the time it’s true with state jobs, ESPECIALLY now. Trust me, if you apply for a full-time state job, and you don’t have an inside track--someone else does.
I guess most people mean well in this sort of situation, but good grief… Saying this sort of thing implies that they think you don't have good sense.

2. The same thing happens at the gov't level |

Rebels getting creamed? Hey, no problemo! A couple days of no-fly-zone will solve everything. Piece of cake.
Raccoon, I have no simple solutions. If you can start a business, then my hat's off to you. It sounds like a monumental task.
