I Miss The TV Show, L O S T
It's almost been a year since its finale. It was a rare free network show that challenged it audience, and it really got people going online and participating in discussions and discovery of obscure references. Sure, we were left with several unanswered questions, but what other network show has official threads each week?

Now, all we're stuck with are stereotypical cop, doctor, and lawyer shows, or, even worse, idiotic reality competition shows like Biggest Loser and The Bachelor.

I miss L O S T.

1. I just re-watched One of Them and Maternity Leave the other night
These are the episodes that introduced us to Henry Gale (AKA Benjamin Linus). Ben Linus is EASILY one of, if not, THE greatest TV villian. Incredibly complex, evil, manipulative, deep, smart, etc. Remember all the discussions during that part of the season where everyone was debating whether or not Henry Gale was being truthful or was actually an Other? THAT'S when you know you have a SMART TV show.

3. I miss enjoying and looking forward to Lost
But I still have not 100% reconciled myself to the lame ending.

4. I'm pretty sure someone made this joke
but when I tried to watch the first episode on DVD I was L O S T. I couldn't follow what was going on. Maybe if I would of watched a few more episodes I would of got it.

5. If you haven't seen it - check out The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.
One of the head writers of LOST - Carlton Cuse - created and wrote much of The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. about a bounty hunter in the old west seeking revenge and three time traveling orbs of power. Yep. Part action, drama, comedy, romance and sci-fi - a lot like LOST in those ways. It was cool - only ran for 26 episodes back when Fox was first starting out, but it kind of fills that LOST void - in a way.

6. I also really, really miss LOST. Fortunately, I'm able to stream
it on Netflix and I own Season Six. I've seen the entire series three times! I only watched the last part of the last season in real time. Then I watched it from beginning to end on Netflix Streamer. I've watched the various episodes w/friends who hadn't seen it in real time either and we all got so much out of it. The show is very metaphysical and is so multi-layered. It works for people who aren't into the spirituality aspect of the show just because it was so entertaining. For those of us who are into things like time travel, parallel universes, and things along those lines it actually turned out to be an amazing show.

8. Daddy issues and time travel
We are one disc from the end of Brisco County. It is fun looking for all the seed ideas and also future Lost cast members like M. C. Gainey.

7. I do too
I was thinking about it this morning and how kickass it was.

It occurred to me that one of the things that makes it so kickass is that most of the characters are in their 30s or older. It's hard to show existential angst with a cast of young 20-somethings, but they're all old enough (or in deep enough doodoo) that their problems are serious... there's no abandoning the course you're on to go do something else.

I own the box set, so maybe I'll have a marathon this week. :)

9. Bingo
I cannot stand shows about teenagers who look like supermodels complaining about their relationships. Spare me.

11. I finally broke down and bought season 6 (after Barnes & Noble broke down & gave me 50% off)
Even still, that's nearly $2 an episode. Thank God we're in a devastated economy so we can still get reasonable prices for TV shows on DVD. I bought the full original Roots for $30 at the same time.

13. My sister just recently finished the series
Watched it with her boyfriend, who had watched it when it was on. When she would talk about it, I had to choose my words carefully, so as to not give anything away. I heard about, and sometimes saw after the fact, many a tear.

TV was a difficult medium for a story like Lost. It was fun though.

I also don't watch any of the other idiotic shows you mentioned.

16. Here are some other intelligent shows to try
I'd like to say they're from the U.S., but that would be a lie.

Life on Mars (UK, sequel: Ashes to Ashes) (very LOST-like, both of them)

Intelligence (Canada)

MI-5 (UK)

Mad Dogs (UK)

There's always The X-files, too.

17. Husband and I were crazy about LOST
we don't really follow many shows but LOST hooked us crazy. We were like rabid weasels munching popcorn and watching the DVDs late into the night.

the ending turned off hubby, unfortunately. he just didn't like the religious aspect to it and no matter how I tried to explain it to him (how I interpreted it which was way different than how he saw it) he wouldn't watch it again. It's tainted to him now. Too bad.

some wonderful acting/casting/writing.

one of a kind
