7. E is fucking horrible for you |
|
And as you can tell, this is coming from someone that has done a lot of drugs. E is in my category of "don't touch" along with heroin (needles=bad), crack (instant death possibility), and cocaine (ditto).

E has too much variability in it. Its a pill, so its really easy for it to be something other than what they say it is. 1 in 12 people have a lethal reaction to it, on the first time, because their bodys can't digest it. EDIT: see my post below for a better explanation. It also causes the "pruning " of nerves in the brain at normal doses, as opposed to other drugs which require large doses and/or long term use before nerves are "pruned."
All info from "Illegal Drugs; A Complete Guide to their History Chemistry Use and Abuse" by Paul M. Gahlinger, MD PhD

Let me quote the book. "In October 1993, the Department of Medicine and Pharmacology at Sheffield University in Britain put out an explanation of the "sudden death syndrome." They discovered that about 1 in 12 individuals lack the enzyme cytochrome P450-246, needed to metabolize MDMA (the chemical acronym for E). Without this enzyme, the person is susceptible to a fatal reaction to the drug." So yes I think I summarized that wrong, 1 in 12 may lack the enzyme and this can lead to a fatal reaction. Thanks for catching that.

I don't want to call your book a liar but Ecstasy was a legal OTC pill in the United States for many years in the late 1970s and early 1980s (until the Reagans got wind of it) and no one was ever harmed by it when it was legal. Any "sudden death syndrome" was unheard of in those days.
I don't know what to think but it's certainly odd how drugs suddenly become more dangerous after they've been scheduled.
It seems likely to me that people in the late 1970s had much the same genetics as people in the 1990s and some of them are even the same people ... it's studies like this that make all drug studies appear bogus. There may be some rare hazard or side effect to E. but whether it is more dangerous than, say, ginkgo (a popular herbal supplement) is open to question in my mind.
On Edit -- I hope it is clear that I am not doubting your sincerity or experiences. I have to admit that I have some doubts about this study, perhaps unfairly, though.

37. Can I see your source? |
|
You can go ahead and doubt my experiences, because I have none. I'm just a first year college student who finds illegal substances and their effect on the brain interesting. MDMA was used in the 70's by psychiatrists, but was never approved by the FDA for anything, much less OTC. It was never for sale by a pharmaceutical company. It was made illegal in 1986 under Reagan. Again this is from Gahlinger. I have clearly stated my source, can you state yours? Is this just from you're experience? If so I wont argue with that, seeing as its first hand, but you must take into account your own personal sample size.

34. Well, it can be if you do it too many times. |
|
I loved it though! Only took it three times, back in the late 90s when I lived in London.
I heard if you take it too many times, it may not be possible to ever be happy again naturally. Is that true?

while I would like to see pot/hash be legal; I have a great love of opiates.
Codeine and morphine.. mmmmmmm.... I can only imagine what heroin would be like.
Not that I would ever do heroin. It is too addictive.
I have tried opium a few times though and that was goooooood. It was like weed only without that cloudy-headed stupidity I usually get when get with weed.

27. Marijuana is safe and harmless - Hash however is not |
|
Hash, having high amounts of chemicals other than THC (I forget their names) that induce the 'drowsy' effect of Marijuana can lower your heart rate to a dangerous point.
Plain marijuana, however, doesn't have enough of these checmicals to do any harm.
