Wow..I just got a major email scam regarding ebay
Edited on Fri Apr-02-04 06:20 PM by trumad
I just got this email:

SafeHarbor Pre-Suspension

Dear customer,

We regret to inform you that your eBay account will be suspended due to the violation of our site policy below:

* Misrepresentation of Identity (User) - Representing yourself as another eBay user or registering using the identity of another. Due to the suspension of this account, please be advised you are prohibited from using eBay in any way.

This includes the registering of a new account. Please note that this suspension does not relieve you of your agreed-upon obligation to pay any fees you may owe to eBay. According to our site policy you will have to confirm that you are the real owner of the eBay account by completing the following form or else your account will be deleted.

http://cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?SecureConfirmation&bpuser=1

Our apologies for this unconvenience.

Thank you for using eBay!

Check out the link it sends you to and look how cheesey the web page is. Holy crap... I feel bad at the folks who are falling for this... I knew it was a scam right off because the scammer sends it to multiple email addresses... Ebay would never do that.

Edit: The link on my email leads you to a web site that looks like ebay and then asks for your credit card number for verification purposes...It apparantly is programmed to be linked to once so that's why it's not working above...

1. Forward it to Ebay
They'll investigate it. I got one similar to that and notified Ebay. I changed my Ebay password just to be on the safe side, too.

4. Forward all of these to the following address
This is advicwe from Ebay:

spoof@ebay.com

I get these things all the time, and some look very real. Ebay's advice is forward ALL emails like that to the spoof address. If you do happen to get one that is real, they will tell you that. Better to be safe, ya know.

DO NOT EVER FOLLOW THE LINK! YOU SHOULD CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD WITH EBAY SINCE YOU FOLLOWED THE LINK. I don't know that they got your information, but it's not worth the risk.

5. Yes, this is a common scam.
I received one of those e-mails, too, a few months ago, but had already been alerted to it on other forums I post to.

6. Pretty commom scam nowadays...called phishing.
They come looking like banks, the IRS, PayPal, eBay. Check them all out before answering. And never, NEVER give out any information until you've checked the "real" web site (not the one on the email). This stuff can be pretty scary.

7. I got one supposedly from
Wells Fargo Bank wanting information regarding my accounts with them.

I forwarded it to Wells Fargo and they were right on it. I knew it was fraud even though the website it redirected me to was identical to the real Wells Fargo website because I don't bank with Wells Fargo.
