Whatever happened to Alvin Lee of "Ten Years After"? |
|
Edited on Tue May-24-11 05:43 PM by BrendaBrick
Right now I am listening to an actual cassette tape from Woodstock: "Get buses out of Monticello.. Everything's cool - everything's cool all the way around....and in this unmistakable thick english accent...:"I'm Going Home..."
Oh Lawd - could he play!!!!!! MY word! Whatever happened to this great talent?????
Ummph. Umm. umm. umm. He loved his baby - with the red dress on - - - -
Goin' home to see his wife!
One for the money - two for the show - - -
Dang - he just rocked it!!!!!
And at the end? At the real end...builds up - gets low and quiet and then - and then - just REALLY KICKS IT!!!!!!!
Right?
Why or just why is this not played today????? Have most folks forgotten about this classic????
Can I get a witness????
Dang!!!!

I used to think that the TYA portion of the Woodstock tape was one of the best live performances ever. Period, full stop.
I must be getting old . . . .

...just remember all that really rocked!!!
Can't tell ya how glad I am to run into another TYA fan Moondog!
Kind of frenzy-like...towards the end - right? Yep! Yep-per!!!! :-)
Matter of fact - could listen to this track in lieu of my morning cup of joe to get me going!!!! :-)
Without a doubt!!!
Just wondering....is your copy still on cassette too...or have you found a CD?

6. I was referring to the video - last decent audio I had of that |
|
was on LP, that I got from somewhere. Made a tape, which I loaned out to someone (?), and it never came back. I dumped my cassette recorder years and years ago.
Note to self - need to look for decent audio recording of that set, even if I have to get it from Apple or Amazon . . . .

Oddly - it seems in this day and age that there seems to be a 'come-back' as far as LP's are concerned. Strange....yet good, I suppose.
I never really appreciated the 'digital age'...relagated it all to some sort of digital o's and 1's - to me...just lost something...you know?

- though I dunno - would one actually call a guitar...his wife? Who knows? Could be a combo of both so much as we are concerned. Is the guy still alive? Maybe we could track him down and ask him for sure......
Alvin Lee. Where are you?

16. Here's his bio from allmusic.com |
|
by All Music Guide As with many of the other English beat groups of the '60s, Alvin Lee cut his musical teeth in Hamburg, Germany in a band called the Jaybirds. By 1966, back in England, he had changed the name of his band to Ten Years After and was rapidly becoming a major attraction because of the virtuosity of his solo work. Most Americans first became familiar with Alvin Lee through his appearance at Woodstock, although he remained active throughout the decades which followed; among his releases were 1974's In Flight, 1986's Detroit Diesel and 1996's Live in Vienna.
