1. What the hell is "Encore?" |
|
The footage from "Aliens" that Americans have never seen, btw, is primarily from a 17 minute scene in the beginning that was shown in the UK/Europe and was left out of American versions. It was in the novel, relating to the discovery of the alien craft and Newt's family and escape from the intial ravaging of the montsters.

2. That's what I just saw-the scene where the spaceship is found |
|
However it was nowhere near 17 minutes long. It was more like 5. Encore is one of the pay channel suites for movies, but it's primarily second-run movies, rather than just left the theater movies like HBO or Showtime.

3. I just found it -- it sounded familiar |
|
I remembered incorrectly -- not an uncommon occurance.
There was five minutes of fottage excised from the original, relating to the discavery of the ship and the elephant-head looking thing (five minutes). In the sequel, Newt's parents discovered the alien ship and brought back beast to their colony (12 minutes). It's in the British version and the novels, both of which I haven't seen since the late eighties. SIgh, I wish I had a better memory for this stuff -- though I definitely remember the running times of the deleted scenes.
I just flipped to "Hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?" "No. Have you?"

The directors cut of Aliens had more than just 5 minutes added. The scenes of the discovery of the alien spacecraft, her awakening in the space station, the entire daughter scenes...much more. Including the specifics of the autosentries, etc--that were never included in the original theatrical release.
Where have you people been???
I saw it all on the directors cut.

the one scene at the beginning when they discover the alien spacecraft-that was about 5 minutes. That's what we meant.

I see. But even that scene seemed longer than 5 minutes. When they set off to explore the area, to the actual discovery of the eggs...with Newt and her brother aboard. I dunno, it sure did seem longer than 5 minutes. Hehe...but I was clinging to the edge of my seat at the time. :)
