My perspective is that if someone can do this to an animal, it's no great leap to hurting people. Hell, look at Senator Frist, who mutilated animals in medical school as a hobby.

Most animal abusers are, or become, abusers of humans. Especially humans who are less able to defend themselves, like children. I've seen it myself with kids I grew up with who became parents later on. The sick pups grew into sick, violent, mangy old curs.

Still, you'd be hard pressed to find a child victim of torture who evoked this kind of outrage -- except when it was being worked by a politician to pass a new eponymous law, like "Susie's Law" or "Bobby's Law" or "Chrissy's Law" or whatever.

Sadly, tortured children don't get that kind of response, and many serial killers were shown to have started with torturing animals before escalating their behavior.

I've sent the petition link to everyone on my address list.

I agree that torturing children is horrific, but animals truly have no voice and no one to speak up for them, so in a way a story like this upsets me more. You may say my priorities are misplaced, but I don't care. People who torture animals should receive the same punishment as those who abuse children.
